The more Germany we have in Lithuania, the more we are part of Europe, and the safer our country becomes. This is not only about military presence or partnership — it is about trust, responsibility, and a shared understanding that Europe’s security begins here, in our region. We must value and appreciate our strategic allies who stand together with us today.
For 80 years, Germany kept its army small on purpose. That just ended.
Germany's defense budget hits 83 billion euros this year. By 2029 it climbs to 153 billion euros a year, per the Federal Ministry of Finance. That is the biggest military buildup since the country was rebuilt after the war.
And the goal behind the money is bigger than the number. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius wants the Bundeswehr to become the strongest conventional army in Europe by the mid-2030s. 460,000 troops. His new strategy, called Responsibility for Europe, names Russia as the biggest threat and sets 2029 as the deadline to be combat ready.
The country that spent decades avoiding a strong military is now trying to build the strongest one on the continent. Whatever you think about it, this changes what Germany is.
Send this to someone who still thinks Germany can't defend itself.
