We are pleased to invite you to the following public lecture by Prof. Ulf Maunsbach, visiting lecturer at the University of Malta.

The CJEU and European Private International Law: Recent Developments in Commercial Matters

Since 2023, the CJEU has been particularly active in the field of private international law. In the area of commercial law alone, more than 30 judgments have been delivered concerning the Brussels I bis Regulation, the Rome I Regulation and the Rome II Regulation.

This lecture will provide an overview of this recent case law and highlight some of the most significant developments. A selection of particularly interesting judgments will be examined in greater detail, with a focus on their reasoning and broader implications for European private international law.

The audience is warmly encouraged to take part in the discussion.

The lecture is organised by the Department of Media, Communications & Technology Law within the Faculty of Laws, in collaboration with the Malta Chamber of Advocates.

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr Alexander Paul Miruzzi, who has left this world for eternal life. His departure is a profound loss to the legal community and to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Dr Miruzzi was more than a diligent and principled legal professional. He embodied respect in every interaction, approached his work with empathy, and upheld the values of equality and justice with unwavering conviction. His commitment to safeguarding the rights of others was not merely a professional duty but a reflection of his character — one grounded in integrity, compassion, and a genuine belief in the dignity of every person.

Those who knew him will remember his thoughtful presence, his calm strength, and his ability to listen with both intellect and heart. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the colleagues he inspired, and the ideals he championed with quiet determination.

May he rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones find comfort in the knowledge that his life’s work and spirit of justice will continue to resonate within our community.
