NHE Consultation Meeting

The Keetmanshoop Municipality today held a consultative meeting with the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) regarding the construction of housing, Brukharos Proper, and Tseiblaagte Extensions 4 and 5 as part of the Informal Settlement Upgrade Program (ISUP).

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to advance housing development and address the formal housing needs of residents in Keetmanshoop.

Swearing-In of Hon. Cllr. Gertzon Pveclidias Witbooi

In accordance with Sections 11(2)(c) and 22(1) of the Local Authorities Act, 1992 (Act No. 23 of 1992), as amended, Hon. Cllr. Gertzon Pveclidias Witbooi was officially sworn in as a Council Member of the Keetmanshoop Municipality and subsequently elected as a member of the Management Committee.

The Keetmanshoop Municipality warmly congratulates Hon. Cllr. Witbooi on his appointment and election and wishes him every success as he takes on this important responsibility in service to the residents of Keetmanshoop.

IIkharas Business Development Workshop

It gives me great pleasure to invite all young people between the ages of 18 and 45 years, including business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and National Youth Development Fund (NYDF) applicants, to attend the ||Kharas Business Development Workshop.

The workshop will be facilitated by the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) Mentoring and Coaching Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of ||Kharas Region and the Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre (VTC).

⏰ Time: 08:00 on both days
📍 Venue: Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre, Noordhoek

This workshop presents an important opportunity for young people to gain practical knowledge in business management, entrepreneurship, financial readiness and the National Youth Development Fund (NYDF) application process.

I particularly encourage young entrepreneurs and those who have already applied for NYDF funding but have not yet received confirmation to attend and make use of this valuable opportunity.

Death Notice: Mr. Willem Karollus

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Keetmanshoop Municipality announces the passing of our colleague, Mr. Willem Karollus, who sadly passed away on 14 September 2026.

Mr. Willem served at Krönlein Cemetery for the past seven years and was a valued member of the Keetmanshoop Municipality family. His dedication and contribution will be deeply missed.

We extend our sincere condolences to his bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him. May Almighty God grant them strength, peace, and comfort during this difficult time.

Stakeholders engagement with driving schools and driving instructors

“This engagement comes at a time when road accidents remain a serious national concern in Namibia. Too many lives are lost or permanently affected on our roads, leaving families devastated and communities carrying the consequences. Behind every accident statistic is a person , a parent, a child, a breadwinner, a friend or a member of our community.

As local authorities, we are deeply concerned about road safety because our communities experience the consequences of road crashes firsthand. We therefore believe that reducing accidents requires a collective effort from Government, local authorities, law-enforcement agencies, road users and, importantly, driving schools and driving instructors.

Driving instructors have a particularly important responsibility because you are often the first professionals who teach new drivers how to behave on our roads. The lessons you provide go beyond passing a driving test. You are helping to shape attitudes, discipline, responsibility and respect for other road users.

We must therefore ensure that learner drivers are not only taught how to operate a vehicle, but also understand the dangers of speeding, reckless and negligent driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, distracted driving and failure to observe traffic regulations.”

These were the remarks delivered by His Worship, Hon. Cllr Emrico Blaauw, during the stakeholders’ engagement with driving schools and driving instructors, hosted by the Ministry of Works and Transport under the theme “Regulating Driving Schools and Driving Instructors.”

Congratulations to Our Young Leaders!

Council extends its heartfelt congratulations to our Keetmanshoop Junior Town Councillor, Hon. Carol Willem, on being sworn in as a member of the 4th Junior National Council (Children’s Parliament of Namibia).

Keetmanshoop is immensely proud to have you as a representative of our youth. We have no doubt that you will serve with dedication, passion and integrity, and represent the voices and interests of our young people to the fullest of your capabilities.

We also extend our sincere congratulations to Hon. Henriette Morris of Karasburg and Hon. Fritz Hangue of Lüderitz, with special congratulations to Hon. Fritz Hangue on being elected Chairperson of the JNC.

The election of a young representative from the ||Kharas Region to lead the JNC is a significant milestone for our region. It is a proud moment that reflects the potential, leadership and growing voices of the young people of ||Kharas. Indeed, ||Kharas is well represented! Council wishes you all a successful and impactful term. May you continue to champion youth advocacy, meaningful participation and the rights and wellbeing of children, ensuring that the ||Kharas child is not left behind.
