Ongwe Minerals is hiring a Database Geologist

The applicant must be the holder of a Namibian Identity Document.

We are seeking a meticulous and professional Database Geologist to join our team based in Windhoek.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, validation, and accessibility of all geological, drilling, and geochemical data. As the custodian of the geological database, you will support exploration and mining teams by delivering high-quality data management solutions in compliance with international standards.

Responsibilities

· Manage, maintain, and optimize the corporate geological database system (e.g., acQuire, Datashed, or SQL Server).
· Oversee the capture, validation, import, and QA/QC verification of data from drilling, logging, assaying, and mapping activities.
· Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data collection and data entry protocols.
· Monitor Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) programs, generating routine reports on standards, blanks, and duplicates to detect and resolve issues promptly.
· Collaborate closely with Exploration Geologists, Resource Geologists, and field technicians to streamline data workflows and resolve discrepancies.
· Generate accurate database extracts, queries, layouts, and exports for 3D geological modeling, resource estimation, and statutory reporting.
· Ensure regular automated backups, data security protocols, and system audits are strictly adhered to.
· Provide technical training and day-to-day database support to site-based geological staff.

Minimum Requirements

· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree: http://B.Sc. or http://B.Sc. Honors in Geology, Earth Science, or a closely related field.
· At least 3 years of direct experience working with mining/exploration geological databases.
· Must be a Namibian Citizen (proof of citizenship required).
· Proven proficiency with specialized geological database software (e.g., acQuire, Datashed, Fusion, or similar) and relational database management systems (SQL Server).
· Familiarity with geological modeling and GIS software (e.g., Leapfrog, Datamine, Micromine, Surpac, or ArcGIS) is highly advantageous.
· Strong understanding of QA/QC protocols, sample insertion methodologies, and laboratory assay workflows.
· Excellent analytical skills, high attention to detail, and a problem-solving mindset.

Applications are invited from African nationals for scholarships in the fields of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space and Planetary Science, Space Technology, Planetary Geology and Remote Sensing.

Pan–African Network for Planetary Science and Technology (PAP2SN) scholarships are jointly administered by six (6) African partner institutions, where selected students and staff will be able to engage in postgraduate studies, research, teaching or training. The first PAP2SN Call offers four PhD (full degree-seeking), six Masters (full degree-seeking) and three staff short-term visit scholarships.
