Bluff Community Board The Bluff Community Board is often the first point of contact with the Council for people in the Bluff area. The Board meets every six weeks Bluff.

The Board meets every six weeks in the Municipal Chambers, Gore Street, Bluff. The public are invited to attend meetings (unless stated otherwise) and may also request to speak to the Board on any issue. Agendas are normally available for downloading two days before each meeting.

What do you want Invercargill and Bluff to look like in 10, 20 or 30 years?

What do we need to protect? What could be better? And what do we need to plan for?

We’re developing a Spatial Plan, a 30-year plan for how and where our district grows and changes.

The decisions we make now, including where we build, how we get around, what we invest in and what we protect, will shape our district for decades to come.

At this week’s Bluff Community Board meeting, we received updates about some of the work and projects happening around town.

It was really interesting to hear from the Bluff Hill Motupōhue Environment Trust about their work, and to offer them our written support in their bid for funding from the Lottery Fund.

In other updates, Council staff are continuing to investigate the way stormwater moves around our streets, the proposed no-stopping restrictions at Stirling Point are progressing through the Parking Control Bylaw process, and the Parks and Recreation team are reviewing their mowing operations ahead of the high-growth season.

The Board also received its year-end financial report and heard the latest update on local government reform.

The next Bluff Community Board meeting is scheduled for Monday 12 October.

Next time you’re exploring Motupōhue, take a closer look. Native plants are springing up through the gorse and pines, and some areas are already becoming established native bush.

At our recent Bluff Community Board meeting, we heard about the incredible work the Bluff Hill Motupohue Environment Trust is doing to restore native habitats in our local area

Over the past four years, the Trust has planted more than 100,000 eco-sourced native trees and established a thriving nursery in Bluff that produces 35,000 native plants each year. They maintain 130km of traplines, which has resulted in the removal of more than 16,800 pests, and pull about 10,000 wilding pine seedlings out of the ground every year.

This mahi is helping create a place where native species can thrive, and it couldn’t happen without the dedication of the Trust’s staff, volunteers and supporters. Thank you for all your hard work.

UPDATE: Strong winds are now set to start from 5am. Follow Emergency Management Southland for updates.

Tomorrow we have an Orange Wind Warning in place from 6am - 2pm.

At this stage, MetService says there’s a low chance it will be upgraded to a Red Warning. However, as we all know from last year, things can change last minute.

We’ll keep you updated if anything does, but before bed tonight, it’s worth taking a quick two-minute lap outside to make sure everything is secure: outdoor furniture, trampolines and anything else that could take flight.

If you don’t need to head out, tomorrow is a good day to stay home.

While our parks remain open, we ask you to be careful and keep well away from large trees.

If you do need to head out, please take extra care on the roads.
If you have concerns about trees or other potential hazards, please give us a call on 03 211 1777 or report them through Antenno.

Water will be temporarily turned off between 7pm and 8pm this Thursday, in parts of Bluff as part of the pipe upgrades.

The team will work as quickly as they can and aim to have water restored within the hour.
