Edwin Fox Maritime Museum

Edwin Fox Maritime Museum The Edwin Fox is one of the oldest surviving sailing ships in the world . The Museum tells the story situated besides the Interislander ferry terminal.

We are very lucky to have this historic treasure here in Picton. The ship has historic places trust category 1 status and is older than the Cutty Sark in London, just not as well known! The Edwin Fox is the last remaining convict ship that took convicts to Australia, the last surviving ship of 'The Dunbar' shipping fleet, once the largest shipping fleet in the world and 'The Edwin Fox' is also reg

istered by 'The World Ships Trust' as the oldest merchant ship in the world. The Story of the saving of The Edwin Fox is amazing in itself being brought for a shilling by Mr Norman Brayshaw...saving it from a watery grave ... come and read the tales for yourself. A great all weather and family friendly activity, lots of photo opportunities and intereactive too, a great way to spend time waiting for a ferry too. We also offer group rates and have catering options too, please enquire. Check out our google and trip advisor reviews.

🌊 Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊

Today, we celebrate World Ocean Day, a day to recognize and appreciate the vast and vital oceans that connect our world. πŸŒπŸ’™
The Edwin Fox has sailed the seas extensively, traveling the equivalent of 34 times around the world! πŸŒβš“οΈ A typical voyage between England and New Zealand would take around 3 months, but one particular journey took about 5 months β€” delayed by a fierce storm in the Bay of Biscay, shortly after leaving London. ⛡️
The Edwin Fox is a testament to the power and unpredictability of the ocean, and its incredible voyages continue to inspire wonder.
Visit us to learn more about the ship's history and the role our oceans play in connecting the world.

Sad to learn of the passing of Jack Fry.
Jack was heavily involved in the early preservation work carried out on the Edwin Fox.
RIP Jack.

One of the wonderful and joyful things about attending a funeral can be hearing the many stories of the person being celebrated and discovering just how rich and fascinating their life was. So it is with Jack Fry, who left us on 29 April 2026.
