The paddocks will soon be full of bouncing lambs, so we’re taking a look baa-ck at some sheep from Tasman’s past.
First up, we have a flock of Ryeland sheep and lambs at ‘Broadview’ in Hope, photographed in 1937.
Next is a sheep-shearing demonstration at Murchison, captured by Keith Hamblyn in 1976.
We also have a sheep in a paddock near Pitfure House, Wakefield, in 1990.
Henry, and Ruth Bastin are pictured in Wakefield in 1930, with Ruth holding a lamb.
And finally, there’s an invoice from E. W. Winn to G. Silcock for the purchase of sheep and lambs in 1904.

Wednesday 1 July – Sunday 23 August
We love to celebrate our libraries and poetry, so how better to do this than with some library themed poetry! Pick up an entry form, write your poetic masterpiece and return it to your local Tasman Library before Monday 24 August to be in the draw to win “Flowers of Japan – Great Works of Japanese Woodblock Printing.” This is open to all.

Today we’re looking at some of the buildings that once played an important part in district life but are no longer standing.
First up is Waimea Stores Ltd., located on the corner of Gladstone Road and Queen Street. Also known as May’s General Store, it was photographed in 1961 by Jim Knight.
The brick building was in Queen Street as well, almost opposite the library. Known as the Beresford Building, from 1948 to 2003, it housed the dental practice of Ray Burnet Beresford. The building was demolished in 2007.
The next image is of River Terrace School in Brightwater, with some of its pupils, taken in the late 1910s.
Lastly, we have the Wakefield Railway, Post and Telegraph Office in 1903. The building features several advertisements, including for bicycle hire, tobacconists, picture framers, and tailors.

The cutest highlight of the week — by far! Our Soft Toy Sleepover was a huge success! The children were absolutely delighted to discover all the mischief and adventures their cuddly friends got up to on Monday night, then hear all about it at Storytime the next day. Definitely the highlight of the week!
