⚠️PUBLIC NOTICE ⚠️ Taipa Area School will be completing its Earthquake and Tsunami Drills at 12 PM TODAY - not 1:30 PM. 🌊

We’re at the top of the country, let's see if we can rise up to top the ShakeOut

It’s time for the Taniwha to get ready to Shake Out (21 October 1.30pm), our national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi (evacuation).

You don’t need to be a marae, school or an office to register and take part. Get your households and whānau to join in as well.
Not saying but our region is just below the whānau we took the Shield off Civil Defence Emergency Management Canterbury and our closest neighbours in the big smoke Auckland Emergency Managementt who are looking after the shield now. Let’s see if we can slide up the rankings here.

On October 21 at 1.30pm (or a time of your choosing)
✅ Drop onto your hands and kness
✅ Cover your head and neck, under a table if there’s one nearby
✅ Stay put and hold on until the shaking would have stopped

Things to remember:
🌊 Although earthquakes don’t affect Northland as such, we do have a tsunami risk
🌊 If you are in a tsunami evacuation zone, you should practise your evacuation route, or ‘tsunami hīkoi’.
🌊 A tsunami hīkoi is a walk that takes you along your tsunami evacuation route either inland or towards high ground.
🌊 Practicing your tsunami evacuation route helps your muscle memory kick in when an event happens, even in a very stressful situation.

KIS warmly invites all our whānau and the wider community to a FREE seminar: “Understanding Our Kids’ Online World.”

In today’s digital world, our tamariki are navigating online spaces that can be exciting, challenging, and sometimes difficult to understand. This seminar is a great opportunity for parents, caregivers, whānau, and community members to learn more about the online world our children are growing up in and how we can best support and keep them safe.

We encourage all whānau and community members to come along, learn something new, and be part of this important conversation.
