ADVISORY ON THE USE OF OFFICIAL REMITTANCE CHANNELS

The Philippine Embassy in Port Moresby advises all Filipino nationals in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to strictly adhere to the host country’s financial laws.

1. COMPLIANCE WITH PNG LAWS & GREY-LIST STATUS
As of February 2026, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has placed PNG under "increased monitoring" (the Grey List). Consequently, the Financial Analysis and Supervision Unit (FASU) of the Bank of Papua New Guinea has intensified enforcement of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Act 2015.

▪️Criminal Liability: Under the Criminal Code (AML/CTF) (Amendment) Act 2015, concealing the origin of illegally obtained money is a serious crime punishable by heavy fines or imprisonment.

▪️Financial institutions now enforce strict "Know Your Customer" (KYC) rules. Always maintain proof of income (pay slips, tax records, or contracts) for all large deposits or transfers.

2. USE ONLY AUTHORIZED REMITTANCE CHANNELS

The Embassy strongly discourages "underground" remittance methods (padala through unauthorized individuals or unofficial exchange schemes).

▪️Risks of Unofficial Channels: Using unauthorized entities violates the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. This may result in the permanent freezing of your funds and criminal investigation.

▪️Authorized Channels: Only use licensed commercial banks or registered money transfer operators.

The Embassy urges the Filipino community to protect your hard-earned savings and legal status by following only official financial procedures.
