JUST IN: The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has approved a P42 wage increase in Central Visayas, which is expected to take effect on October 14, 2026.

This was confirmed by DOLE Secretary and NWPC Chairperson Francis “Tol” N. Tolentino.

The current minimum wage for Class A areas will increase from P540 to P582, while Class B areas will see their minimum wage rise from P500 to P542. For domestic workers, the minimum wage is set to increase to P7,500 from the current rate.

The wage order is expected to be published tomorrow, Monday, September 28, and may take effect 15 days after its publication.

In accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 136, s. 2026, work in the Lapu-Lapu City Government will be suspended starting 1:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2026, in observance of Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day as part of the 34th National Family Week.

I encourage our City Government employees and all Oponganons to take this time to be with their families, share a meal, and enjoy meaningful moments together. Family remains an important source of love, strength, and support in our everyday lives.

May this special occasion remind us to make time for the people who matter most.

𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄-𝐓𝐎-𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐒 𝐒𝐔𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃

For the safety of our students, teachers, and school personnel, face-to-face classes in all public and private schools, including daycare, elementary, and high school, in Lapu-Lapu City are suspended tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, due to the very unhealthy air quality being monitored in Metro Cebu.

As of 4:00 PM today, the Environmental Management Bureau Region VII (EMB-7) recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 167 at the Metro Cebu Station, classified as VERY UNHEALTHY. It has been several days since we have been experiencing this haze, and we continue to closely monitor the situation. All public schools shall automatically shift to Alternative Delivery Modes (ADM), while private schools are encouraged to adopt ADM or arrange make-up classes as needed.

I am asking everyone to take extra precautions, especially our children, senior citizens, and those who may be more sensitive to poor air quality. Please limit outdoor activities, wear a face mask when going outside, and stay indoors whenever possible. Let us continue to follow official advisories and take care of one another as we wait for the air quality to improve.

FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES SUSPENDED
