FROM ALMOST MISSING IT TO GOLD๐ฅ
Rhaine Jade Bravo and Benedict De Viana had already earned the chance to represent the Philippines in an international robotics competition. But before they could even think about winning, there was a more immediate problem.
The two Grade 12 STEM students of Paracale National High School in Camarines Norte nearly missed the Global Robotics Competition 2025 in Thailand because of insufficient funds.
Their trip eventually became possible after support came from their school community, local officials, organizations, faculty members and other sponsors who helped them reach the competition.
When Rhaine and Benedict finally made it to Thailand, they did more than simply participate.
They returned home as Gold Champions in the Creative/Innovation Category. The pair also earned 3rd Runner-Up in the Sumobot 1000g Auto Category, adding another international achievement for their public school in Paracale.
Their participation was part of the Global Robotics Competition held in Thailand from late October to early November 2025, one of the international robotics events listed by Pinoy Robot Games in its 2025 calendar.
The victory was also not their first time proving themselves abroad.
A year earlier, Rhaine and Benedict had already competed at the World Robot Games 2024 in Singapore, where they won the Innovation Creative Category together. Benedict also became champion in the K-Beam Senior Category, while Rhaine placed second runner-up in the I-Beam Senior Category.
But their 2025 story carries a different weight.
Two students had the skills to compete internationally and eventually win gold, yet money nearly prevented them from reaching the competition in the first place.
Their medals became possible not only because of their talent and preparation, but also because people chose to help make sure they were given the chance to show what they could do.
