The AMAYA SCHOOL OF HOME INDUSTRIES (ASHI) welcomed representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Tanza and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to discuss school safety, emergency preparedness, and measures to protect students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel.
The school administration, led by School Principal Mrs. Norielyn C. Narciso, represented by Assistant School Principal Mrs. Susana R. Fojas, received the delegation headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Chester Noel R. Borlongan, Chief of Police of PNP Tanza. Also present was Major Marlon Escalante, Deputy Chief of Police, along with Fire Officer II Jhomar E. Vidallo of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
During the discussion, Borlongan addressed the recent incident in Mindanao involving violence reportedly connected to students and emphasized the need for schools and communities to remain vigilant while strengthening security measures.
He stressed that ensuring the safety of students and school personnel is a shared responsibility among parents, teachers, the government, and law enforcement agencies.
βThe maintenance of security is a joint responsibility of the parents, teachers, and the government, including the PNP,β Borlongan said.
He urged students, teachers, and parents to remain observant and immediately report suspicious behavior or activities to the appropriate authorities.
Borlongan also discussed the proposed development of a school alert and rapid response system designed to facilitate faster police response during emergencies. The conceptualized system may include a push-button feature that can immediately notify police officers on duty when assistance is needed. The system is intended not only for students but also for parents, teachers, and other school personnel.
Although the Mindanao incident was considered an isolated case, Borlongan emphasized that this should not prevent schools from preparing for possible threats. He reiterated the importance of strengthening security measures to protect students, teachers, and other members of the school community.
He likewise encouraged students to report unusual changes in the behavior of their classmates to school authorities or other appropriate personnel. According to Borlongan, vigilance and early reporting can help authorities respond to potential threats before they escalate.
The police official also discussed previous cases involving online threats and misinformation directed at schools. He said that some of these cases were eventually resolved through the efforts of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, which investigated individuals allegedly responsible for spreading fake news and threats online.
Borlongan reminded students that using anonymous accounts does not necessarily shield individuals from accountability for unlawful online activities. He warned students against sharing unverified information and encouraged them to report threatening messages to authorities immediately.
Meanwhile, Major Marlon Escalante, Deputy Chief of Police, shared reminders with students on how to maintain their safety both inside and outside the school premises. He emphasized the importance of following safety measures and remaining alert in different situations.
For his part, FO2 Jhomar E. Vidallo of the BFP Tanza discussed safety protocols that students and school personnel can observe in case of fire and other unforeseen emergencies. His discussion highlighted the importance of preparedness, proper response, and cooperation during emergency situations.
Representing the parents and the school community, SPTA President Deogracias De Guzman also encouraged students to maintain open communication with their parents. He reminded learners that sharing their concerns and experiences with their families can help parents and school authorities provide timely guidance and support.
The activity underscored the importance of collaboration among the school, parents, police, fire authorities, and the wider community in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.
Through continued vigilance, responsible communication, and preparedness, ASHI aims to strengthen its efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of every member of the school community.
