Global crude oil prices continue to rise for the fourth consecutive month following fresh reports of multiple oil tankers hitting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. According to an Al Jazeera report, these incidents have intensified concerns over global oil transit and supply chain vulnerabilities as the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran enters its eighth month. December futures for Brent crude jumped by $1.20 (1.04%) to reach $116.08 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose by $1.37 (1.34%) to settle at $103.37 per barrel. On a monthly basis, Brent crude is projected to rise by nearly 11%, with WTI on track for an approximate 14% gain. As a vital global maritime transit route, any security disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz pose direct risks to international oil supply and price stability.

Crypto exchange Binance has suffered the largest cyberattack in cryptocurrency history, leaving approximately $6.3 billion worth of crypto assets compromised. Following the breach, foreign media reported that Binance partnered with blockchain partners and stablecoin companies to swiftly freeze nearly $3 billion in assets. Binance has temporarily suspended all deposits and withdrawals pending security checks and announced that the company will fully cover all user losses. Initial investigations by Binance indicate that the attack occurred after a company engineer's laptop was hacked, allowing cybercriminals unauthorized access to execute illegal withdrawal transactions. According to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs, the state-sponsored North Korean hacking group 'TraderTraitor' is suspected to be behind the heist. This incident surpasses last year's breach on crypto platform Bybit, where approximately $1.5 billion was stolen.

Data from the Global Burden of Disease study presented by the Ministry of Health in the National Assembly reveals that the number of mental health patients in Pakistan has surpassed 32.04 million. According to the Health Ministry, Islamabad alone recorded 300,000 mental health patients up until 2023, while the country currently has only 1,050 registered psychiatrists—resulting in a ratio of just one psychiatrist for every 245,400 people. Regionally, Punjab has 406 psychiatrists, Sindh 228, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 122, and Balochistan 44. Additionally, the Ministry reported that there are 3,900 AIDS patients nationwide, with the highest concentration in Sindh at 1,915 cases, followed by Punjab with 1,765, KP with 139, Balochistan with 46, Islamabad with 30, Azad Kashmir with 4, and Gilgit-Baltistan with 1 case.

Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz declared during an address at a ceremony in Lahore that she would resign if even a single rupee of corruption were proven against her. Emphasizing the need for a safe environment to attract investment, she questioned how workers could operate in an atmosphere marred by daily protests and vandalism. Maryam Nawaz stated that a robust anti-corruption campaign is actively underway in Punjab, with public servants caught taking bribes being dismissed from their jobs. Highlighting the province's key contribution to the national GDP, the Chief Minister noted that 25-year-old illegal land occupations have been cleared, encroachments removed to widen market areas, and every sector including industry is undergoing transformation. She added that Pakistan's youth population has the potential to become the country's greatest asset.

The Islamabad Model Jail project, launched in 2009, remains only one-third complete despite 17 years of development. Although prison rooms, barracks and other blocks have been constructed, essential facilities are still required before the facility can become fully operational.

Another major challenge is the absence of a separate Prisons Department in Islamabad. A Punjab-based officer has been appointed as the jail superintendent, while more than 100 Islamabad Police personnel are handling security and staffing responsibilities. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry says the Islamabad Chief Commissioner will oversee prison affairs, while the jail superintendent expects the department's official notification soon.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a suspect in Karachi for allegedly defrauding a woman of Rs4.45 million through a matrimonial app by promising marriage. Authorities say the suspect collected money through multiple bank accounts before threatening to circulate altered pictures of the victim on social media to extort more money.

A case has been registered against the suspect under the PECA Act. Initial investigations suggest that several other women may also have been targeted using the same method. The NCCIA has urged potential victims to come forward, assuring them that their identities will remain confidential.

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi strongly dismissed claims that Pakistan is undergoing an acute national or economic crisis. Responding directly to opposition rhetoric, he questioned the pessimism surrounding the country's trajectory, asserting that Pakistan's technological and defense capabilities—exemplified by the successful domestic production and export of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets—demonstrate strength rather than vulnerability.
Furthermore, the minister cautioned political figures against the instrumentalization of religion for partisan gains. Abbasi urged lawmakers to refrain from misapplying Quranic verses and Hadith to serve personal or political interests, stressing the importance of grounded, fact-based discourse within the legislature.

Leader of the Opposition Mehmood Khan Achakzai addressed the National Assembly, strongly criticizing the economic disparity and social crisis in the country, noting that daily wage laborers do not even earn Rs 15,000, 16,000, or 20,000 while 60 million children remain out of school. Questioning claims that Pakistan is a "fortress of Islam," he asked what kind of system allows elite vehicle tanks to be filled for Rs 40,000 while the poor struggle to earn even Rs 20,000, stating that no one's father can run a country under such conditions. Achakzai warned the assembly that the day the public, driven by their children's hunger, takes to the streets and attacks the markets, the rulers will realize where the nation is heading.

Russia has announced renewed efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States and prevent further military escalation in the Gulf region. According to Al Jazeera, a Kremlin spokesperson stated that Russia is prepared to act as a mediator between both nations if formally requested by Iran and the US. The statement added that if Iran’s enriched uranium remains a obstacle in negotiations, Russia is willing to receive and store the material on its territory. The spokesperson disclosed that Iranian matters are regularly discussed during contacts between Russia and the United States, with both sides exchanging positions. Although Russia has previously offered to store Iran's enriched uranium to resolve the nuclear dispute, Russian officials noted in April that the US had rejected a proposal to transfer Iranian uranium to Russia. Neither the US nor Iran has officially responded to Moscow's latest mediation offer, while diplomatic differences over the nuclear program and regional tensions persist.
