Family Afternoon Brings Our Community Together

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, the DIS Doha invited families to a special Family Afternoon after classes. The event offered parents and children the opportunity to get to know teachers, administrative staff, members of the school board, embassy representatives, and partners from extracurricular institutions and organizations such as Soul for Music, Spider Tricks Company, Stryx Sports (NBA), Hamad Bin Khalifa University (German Language Center), Westbay Medicare, Qatar National Library, and AHK in a relaxed atmosphere.
New families were warmly welcomed and had the opportunity to get to know the school community better. The children enjoyed a variety of activities in the sports hall, including basketball with the NBA and an obstacle course with Spider Tricks. Coffee, drinks, fruit, cookies, and other refreshments contributed to the friendly atmosphere.
The afternoon provided a valuable opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and celebrate the community that makes the DIS Doha such a welcoming place.

Familiennachmittag bringt unsere Gemeinschaft zusammen
Am Donnerstag, dem 10. September 2026, lud der DIS Doha die Familien nach dem Unterricht zu einem besonderen Familiennachmittag ein. Die Veranstaltung bot Eltern und Kindern in einer entspannten Atmosphäre die Gelegenheit, Lehrer, Verwaltungsmitarbeiter, Mitglieder des Schulvorstands, Vertreter von Botschaften sowie Partner aus außerschulischen Einrichtungen und Organisationen kennenzulernen.
Neue Familien wurden herzlich willkommen geheißen und hatten die Gelegenheit, die Schulgemeinschaft besser kennenzulernen. Die Kinder genossen eine Vielzahl von Aktivitäten in der Sporthalle, darunter Basketball mit der NBA und einen Obstacle-Parcours mit Spider Tricks. Kaffee, Getränke, Obst, Kekse und andere Erfrischungen trugen zur freundlichen Atmosphäre bei.
Der Nachmittag bot eine wertvolle Gelegenheit, Kontakte zu knüpfen, Ideen auszutauschen und die Gemeinschaft zu feiern, die DIS Doha zu einem so einladenden Ort macht.

World Children’s Day at Our Primary School
During our Sunday “Hello Week,” the theme of “compassion” took center stage as the value of the month. This was also part of our celebration of World Children’s Day, which focused on our children and the things that matter to them.
In connection with this, Class 3 performed an impressive play titled “Compassion Starts with Me” for the entire primary school. A paper heart illustrated just how much kind and unkind words can influence our feelings. The children made it clear that compassion begins with ourselves: Those who pay attention to their own feelings can also better understand the feelings of others, help them, and treat one another with respect. This motto will guide us not only today but throughout the entire coming month.
In addition, our new “Wishing Tree” was unveiled in the Main Hall. All children can write or draw their wishes and ideas for improving our school on tree leaves. Already last school year, we were able to take many of these wishes on board and put them into practice. It’s important to us that the children learn that their voices matter and that they can actively help shape our school. In this way, World Children’s Day becomes a beautiful reminder of what school should be every day: a place where children feel safe, heard, and valued.

Weltkindertag an unserer Grundschule
In unserer sonntäglichen ‚Hallo Woche’ stand das Thema „Mitgefühl“ als Wert des Monats im Mittelpunkt. Dies war zugleich Teil unserer Würdigung des Weltkindertags, bei dem unsere Kinder und das, was sie bewegt, im Fokus standen.
Die Klasse 3 führte dazu ein beeindruckendes Theaterstück mit dem Titel „Mitgefühl beginnt bei mir“ für die Grundschule auf. Ein Papierherz zeigte dabei, wie sehr freundliche und unfreundliche Worte unsere Gefühle beeinflussen können. Die Kinder machten deutlich, dass Mitgefühl bei uns selbst beginnt: Wer auf seine eigenen Gefühle achtet, kann auch die Gefühle anderer besser verstehen, ihnen helfen und respektvoll miteinander umgehen. Dieses Motto wird uns nicht nur heute, sondern durch den gesamten kommenden Monat begleiten.
Außerdem wurde unser neuer „Baum der Wünsche“ in der Mainhall vorgestellt. Alle Kinder können ihre Wünsche und Ideen zur Verbesserung unserer Schule auf Baumblätter schreiben oder malen. Bereits im vergangenen Schuljahr konnten wir viele dieser Wünsche aufgreifen und umsetzen. Uns ist wichtig, dass die Kinder erfahren, dass ihre Stimme zählt und sie unsere Schule aktiv mitgestalten können. So wird der Weltkindertag für uns zu einer schönen Erinnerung daran, was Schule jeden Tag sein sollte: ein Ort, an dem Kinder sich sicher, gehört und wertgeschätzt fühlen.
