An eventful and inspiring summer is gradually giving way to autumn. Throughout the summer, ICH EDU North has been actively engaged in a wide range of activities, taking part in events, organizing workshops, participating in seminars, and, of course, documenting the rich diversity of our region’s living cultural heritage for educational purposes.

The Interreg Aurora funded project FOR-BLEND invites you to an online webinar introducing its latest research on converting forest-based residues into sustainable fuel blending components for future transport🌲🛻

The cross-border project develops and upgrades pyrolysis oil from residual lignocellulosic biomass into advanced hydrocarbon fuel components that can be blended with conventional diesel, supporting the transition towards more sustainable energy solutions.

The webinar will present the complete research pathway, from pilot-scale biofuel production and fuel-property evaluation to process simulation and optimization. Participants will gain insight into how these complementary activities contribute to developing advanced liquid biofuels and strengthening the pathway from pyrolysis oil to practical fuel applications.

The webinar brings together the FOR-BLEND project partners University of Vaasa, Åbo Akademi and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden to present the latest advances in developing sustainable fuel blending components from forest-based residues.

This initiative empowers young people aged 18–30 from Europe’s border regions to contribute to EU policy, share their stories, and connect across borders.

What does it mean to grow up near a border? For many young Europeans, it means commuting, speaking multiple languages, and navigating different systems side by side.

The programme wants to hear those stories. As an Ambassador, you'll work directly with the European Commission, producing content seen across Europe, and helping shape real solutions for the challenges in your region.

📢 If you are between 18 and 30 years old, and borders are part of your story, this could be your next step.

🎣 The ongoing project, Torne Valley Dipnet Culture – Safeguarding the Cultural Heritage of Dipnet Fishing, is funded by Interreg Aurora.

Salmon numbers in the Torne River are significantly higher this summer than during the previous three years, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) 🐟

Att spendera sommaren i fjällen är fantastiskt. Men när fler människor rör sig i fjällen och lämnar efter sig matrester, fiskrens eller annat avfall ökar risken att rödrävar lockas in i områden där fjällräven lever. De två rävarna är nämligen rivaler. De konkurrerar om maten och rödrävar kan faktiskt döda den betydligt mindre fjällräven.

Men det finns enkla sätt att hjälpa till! ✨

Här är fyra tips inför din fjälltur i sommar:

1. Lämna inget ätbart kvar ❌
Ta med alla matrester, fiskrens och slaktrester hem.

2. Planera dina måltider 🍝
Planera portionsstorlekar i förväg och laga bara så mycket mat som du orkar äta.

3. Ta med täta avfallspåsar ♻️
Släng avfallet i närmaste kompost.

4. Gräv ner – om du måste 🪨
Gräv ner rester och täck med större stenar så att räven inte kommer åt det.
