As the world’s largest archipelagic nation, developing top-tier maritime talent is an absolute foundation for our future. To advance this vital mission, the Indonesian Ambassador to Sweden and Latvia, Dr. Yayan Ganda Hayat Mulyana, paid a working visit to the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, where he met directly with WMU President Prof. Maximo Q. Mejia Jr. and the university’s leadership team.

This warm and constructive dialogue paved the way for stronger institutional commitments between both sides. The key focus areas of this collaboration include expanding institutional ties by fostering real partnerships between WMU and prominent Indonesian entities such as UMRAH, STIP, BRIN, and related ministries. Furthermore, both parties discussed launching joint research initiatives, scientific publications, faculty exchanges, and professional executive training programs. A dedicated Indonesian Corner is also planned for the WMU library to serve as a gateway for Indonesian culture and literature in Sweden, alongside efforts to maximize scholarships by opening wider pathways for the nation’s brightest minds through the LPDP scheme.

During the meeting, WMU highly commended the vital contributions of Indonesian students and alumni who form an integral part of their academic community. Currently, eight active Indonesian students are pursuing their degrees at WMU, while our network of around 190 alumni continues to thrive across maritime transport, naval education, and public governance sectors. This milestone marks a dynamic new chapter in reinforcing Indonesia-Sweden bilateral relations through advanced maritime education and research.
