Today, Ambassador Dr. Kaire Mbuende, Director General of the National Planning Commission of the Republic of Namibia, accompanied by H.E. Stanley Tsandib, had the honour of paying a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation of the Republic of Senegal. Ambassador Dr. Mbuende congratulated the Minister on his reappointment and reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Senegal. Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration under the African Union–Africa Water Investment Programme (AU-AIP) High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, co-chaired by H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, and H.E. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Namibia and Senegal to advancing Africa's water investment agenda, strengthening cooperation between the two Co-Chair countries, and promoting sustainable water security and climate resilience across the continent.

H.E. Stanley Tsandib joined Ambassador Dr. Kaire Mbuende, Director General of National Planning, and his delegation who are in Dakar to attend the Meeting of National Planning Directors-General and Ministers, being held from 28 to 30 July 2026 in Saly, Senegal's prestigious tourist resort.

The high-level meeting brings together National Planning Directors-General, Ministers and senior policymakers from across Africa to deliberate on strategies for strengthening national planning systems, enhancing regional cooperation, and accelerating sustainable economic transformation. Discussions are focused on aligning national development plans with continental priorities, including the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while addressing key issues such as public investment, financing development, climate resilience, digital transformation, industrialisation and job creation.

The meeting, hosted by the Government of Senegal, provides an important platform for African leaders and planning experts to share experiences and develop practical solutions to the continent's development challenges.

Today, Ambassador Stanley Tsandib paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Youssouph Diallo, Director of Cabinet in the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening the longstanding relations between Namibia and Senegal and to reaffirm the shared commitment to enhanced bilateral cooperation. Ambassador Tsandib expressed eagerness to work closely with the Government of Senegal to further advance the partnership between the two countries.

Bilateral Engagements: On Friday, 03 July 2026, H.E. Stanley Tsandib held productive bilateral meetings with Ministers of Trade and Agriculture of The Gambia. Discussions with Hon. Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture, Live Stock and Food Security focused on enhancing collaboration in climate-smart agriculture, livestock production, agricultural mechanisation, seed development, agro-processing, capacity building and promoting greater agricultural trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

During his meeting with Hon. Mod Ceesay, Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Ambassador Tsandib highlighted the need to translate the strong political relations between Namibia and The Gambia into meaningful economic partnerships through increased trade, investment, private sector engagement, business exchanges, and the effective implementation of AfCFTA.

Both engagements underscored the shared commitment to advancing sustainable development, expanding intra-African trade, and creating new opportunities for prosperity for the peoples of both countries.

On Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the Embassy, concurrently accredited to The Gambia, belatedly hosted the celebrations marking Namibia's 36th Independence Anniversary in Banjul, The Gambia.

The event brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, and friends of Namibia to commemorate the country's independence, celebrate the enduring friendship and solidarity between Namibia and The Gambia, and reaffirm the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

A special tribute was paid to the Government and people of The Gambia for their invaluable contribution to Namibia's liberation struggle through steadfast political support and the provision of financial and material assistance to the Namibian people in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination.

The occasion also provided an excellent platform for the Embassy to promote Namibia by showcasing the country's products, services, investment opportunities, and rich tourism potential, further strengthening people-to-people and business ties between the two countries.

Today, as part of his official visit to The Gambia, H.E. Mr. Stanley Tsandib held a bilateral meeting with Professor Herbert Robinson, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, and the University's management team.

The discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen academic cooperation between Namibia and The Gambia, including partnerships in higher education, research, innovation, student and faculty exchanges, and skills development.

Both sides reaffirmed the vital role of education in advancing sustainable development, promoting knowledge exchange, and fostering stronger people-to-people ties between the two countries.

On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, H.E. Stanley R. Tsandib, on behalf of Honourable Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Minister of International Relations and Trade of the Republic of Namibia, officially commissioned Mr. Ken Johm as the first Honorary Consul of Namibia to The Gambia. This landmark appointment marks an important step in strengthening relations between Namibia and The Gambia, with a particular focus on advancing trade and investment, promoting cooperation in agriculture and agro-processing, and fostering stronger business-to-business and people-to-people linkages, including in the creative industries. As Honorary Consul, Mr. Johm is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating commercial partnerships, supporting economic diplomacy, and creating new opportunities for collaboration and shared prosperity between the two countries.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on tourism development, destination marketing (branding), sustainable tourism practices, and opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Namibia and The Gambia. The discussions reaffirmed the importance of tourism as a driver of economic growth, cultural exchange, and stronger bilateral relations between the two countries.

During the Diplomatic outreach visit to The Gambia, H.E. Stanley Tsandib paid a courtesy call to Mr. Lang Yabou, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, where he conveyed warm greetings from the Government and people of the Republic of Namibia and reaffirmed Namibia's commitment to strengthening the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries. Ambassador Tsandib expressed appreciation for the Government of The Gambia's support in facilitating the appointment of Namibia's Honorary Consul, highlighting its importance in advancing business, tourism, cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation through the establishment of a Joint Commission of Cooperation and regular political consultations, while also exploring opportunities to expand collaboration in trade, investment, education, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, renewable energy and other priority sectors under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The visit underscored the shared commitment of Namibia and The Gambia to deepen diplomatic engagement and translate their common aspirations into tangible benefits for the peoples of both countries.
