UNESCO names Beijing World Capital of Architecture for 2029

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced on Wednesday that it has selected the Chinese capital Beijing as the World Capital of Architecture for 2029, recognizing its rich architectural heritage and pioneering vision in sustainable urban development.

🔹Deir Ezzor is one of the beating hearts of Syria. It is the capital of the Euphrates region, the gateway to al-Jazira, and the link between the Levant and Mesopotamia.

🔹Deir Ezzor is the land that provided Syria with the resources underpinning its economic security for decades. It later endured unjust marginalization and was deprived of its own wealth.

🔹The time has come to turn the page on the marginalization that has long burdened this province. When we speak of Deir Ezzor, we speak of a steadfast pillar of the Syrian revolution.

🔹Deir Ezzor has paid the price for its principled stance through the sacrifice of its martyrs and by enduring siege, shelling, displacement and destruction.

🔹Deir Ezzor Airport has transformed from a site that once carried bombs dropped on homes and farms into a link connecting communities within Syria and connecting Syria with the outside world.

🔹We share the people of Deir Ezzor's joy over the airport's inauguration, and they deserve much more.

🔹We are working on comprehensive development plans for the eastern region, including Deir Ezzor, Hasakah and Raqqa.

🔹There will be a project to establish a large industrial city featuring food industries and petrochemical industries, allowing products to be exported directly from Deir Ezzor to markets around the world.

🔹We will establish a cancer hospital in Deir Ezzor at an estimated cost of around $21 million.

🔹I extend my sincere thanks to the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority for its extensive efforts and the great attention provided by the authority's Chief over the past period in establishing Deir Ezzor Airport.
