Increase in Petroleum Prices for June 2026

The Ministry of Trade and Economic Development wishes to advise the public that the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) has approved new petroleum prices, effective Monday, 1 June 2026.
As a result, the updated retail prices for Tongatapu are as follows:

Petrol: Increased by 0.20 cent to $4.15 per litre
Kerosene: Increased by 0.45 cent to $4.30 per litre
Diesel: Increased by 0.45 cent to $5.05 per litre

Public is hereby advised that Competent Authority has approved new interim taxi rates on 28th April, 2026. Taxi rates for Tongatapu and Vava’u will be effective on Monday 18th of May, 2026.
INTERIM TAXI RATES FOR TONGATAPU:

New Taxi Rates for Car (4 passengers) for Tongatapu
• From 7am to 7pm: $4.05 for 1st kilometre and $1.40 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
• From 7pm to 7am: $4.45 for 1st kilometre and $1.55 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
New Taxi Rates for vehicle (more than 4 passengers)
• From 7am to 7pm: $4.70 for 1st kilometre and $1.60 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
• From 7pm to 7am: $5.20 for 1st kilometre and $1.75 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.

INTERIM TAXI RATES FOR VAVA’U:
New Taxi Rates for Car (4 passengers)
• From 7am to 7pm: $4.70 for 1st kilometre and $1.70 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
• From 7pm to 7am: $5.20 for 1st kilometre and $1.90 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
New Taxi Rates for vehicle (more than 4 passengers)
• From 7am to 7pm: $5.50 for 1st kilometre and $1.80 for additional kilometre after the 1st kilometre.
• From 7pm to 7am: $6.00 for 1st kilometer and $2.00 for additional kilometre after 1st kilometre.

Waiting Time: $9.00 per hour for both the car (4 passengers) and vehicle (more than 5 passengers).

Please note that the above interim taxi rates are the maximum rates and taxi operators can charge
lower than this but cannot exceed the maximum rate.
