A historic and proud moment for the Kingdom of Tonga as His Royal Highness the Prince Regent officially named Tonga’s Second International undersea fibre optic cable “Tu‘i Vava‘u.” 🇹🇴🌏📡 The ceremony took place in Vava’u, marking a significant national milestone.

The program also marked the official “switch on” of the new undersea cable, symbolising a major step forward in Tonga’s digital connectivity and resilience.

The event was graciously attended by Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess, Lord Fakatulolo, Nobles of the Realm, Cabinet Ministers, government officials, development partners, and distinguished guests, including His Excellency Mr. Brek Batley, Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, and His Excellency Mr. Brody Sinclair, New Zealand High Commissioner to Tonga, representing Tonga’s valued partners in this important national project.

The Hon. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice attended the program and delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga, expressing sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, partners, and agencies involved — especially Tonga Cable Limited for its leadership and commitment in advancing Tonga’s telecommunications infrastructure and digital future.

The Tu‘i Vava‘u cable marks another significant milestone in strengthening Tonga’s international connectivity, communication resilience, and opportunities for economic and social development for the people of Tonga.

May the Tu‘i Vava‘u cable continue to connect Tonga to greater opportunities, innovation, and progress for generations to come.
