Aberdeen Gem Trail Foundation updated their address.
The Gem Trail is getting a sealing coat put on today and possibly tomorrow. We are asking people to stay off the trail until tomorrow evening as it needs to set for 1.5-2 hours.
Due to the uncertainty that Covid-19 May have on Idaho’s staged re-opening, the Gem Trail Committee has decided to cancel this years Aberdeen Daze Fun Run/Walk. If the state continues to recover from Covid-19, we will hold a run/walk this fall and would love for you to join us. We will send out information once that is in place.
To run or not to run?
The Aberdeen Gem Trail is looking for feedback to see if people are wanting to participate in this years 5K walk/run. Please comment so we will know if you plan on participating and can move forward with preparations. Please spread the word. If you have any questions feel free to contact us. Chelsey-2082217955 or Alice-2083978006. All of this is contingent on if the Aberdeen Daze celebration continues as planned.
Let us know by June 9th so we can have time to prepare!
The Aberdeen Gem Trail Foundation is applying for an Idaho Parks and Recreational trails program (RTP) grant to extend the existing Aberdeen Gem Trail. This project would consist of .6 miles of asphalt trail for non-motorized use. It would begin at the Northern edge of Aberdeen at Slaugh Road, connecting to the existing Hazard Creek section of trail. It would proceed East going under Highway 39 at Hazard Creek and then adjacent to Hazard Creek Golf Course until ending at the intersection of 1700 S (Boat Dock Road) with East Bingham Street. This project would extend the existing Gem Trail to over 2 miles of asphalt.
Your input is of great value to us and your comments regarding this project would be greatly appreciated! Comments can be submitted anonymously at City Hall or posted on the Aberdeen Gem Trail Foundation page

The plan is to begin at the greenhouse on Slaugh Road and go east along the Hazard Creek, over the new bridge installed two years ago, and then go under the highway bridge (picture attached). The trail will continue along the outer north side of the golf course between and trees and the highway (picture attached). It will continue on around the edge of the course along the sixth and seventh greens and straight up to Boat Dock Road. Our plan is to some day continue on towards Sportsman's Park. The Gem Trail would appreciate having your feedback on this current application grant.

Stop signs and No motor vehicle signs are up! Except for a couple of bollards I think the trail is DONE! We will be placing benches and trash bins. Placing a bench or a trash bin would make a nice project for someone looking for something to do!
The entrance to the Wahlen Ballfield parking lot has been completed. Especially placed rocks will hopefully keep drivers from parking on the trail. Please dont! Bollards will be placed soon.
The Hazard Creek Trail has been repaired! The City crew removed the bad places and Mickelsen Construction has replaced the asphalt. We are happy!
The Powerline Section of the Aberdeen Gem Trail is now complete! Many thanks to all who contributed from Gem Trail board members who prepared the grant, JUB Engineering for planning and bidding, Aberdeen Springfield Canal Company for ditch piping, Bingham county for base donation, Aberdeen City Crew for base preparation, and Mickelsen Paving!
Signage and benches will follow shortly. 😁
