You can check out police and fire equipment, see the Dyess Robotic K9, enjoy live music, visit more than 25 vendors, and grab FREE food and drinks provided by United Supermarket S. 14th Store.

🐾 Animal Cruelty Investigation Update

Abilene Animal Outreach is investigating an animal cruelty incident reported through SeeClickFix [ abilenetx.gov/seeclickfix ] involving a dog at an Abilene-area car wash on Sept. 18.

The individual shown in the reported photo/video has been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.

Behind every investigation, the Abilene Police Department relies on the expertise and dedication of our Forensics Unit to ensure evidence is properly collected, documented, stored, and preserved.

The Abilene Forensics Unit is recognized for its professionalism, dedication, and patience. Their commitment to continued education and professional development is impressive. Collectively, members of the unit hold 14 degrees, with three additional degrees currently in progress.

From the initial scene to the laboratory, our Forensics professionals understand that even the smallest details can play a critical role in an investigation.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our Forensics Unit for their commitment and exceptional work. Much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their contributions are an essential part of every investigation.

⭐ ⭐ Please join us in honoring Lieutenant Shackleford as we celebrate his career of dedicated service to our community!

Lieutenant Shackleford was raised in Harriman, Tennessee, and a proud graduate of Harriman High School. Before he ever wore an APD badge, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force from January 1985 to January 1995 as a Security Policeman.

Lieutenant Shackleford joined the Abilene Police Department in 1995 and has built a career defined by versatility and dedication:

🔹 Patrol Officer (1995–2003), also serving as a Field Training Officer (1998–2003) and K-9 Officer (2002–2003)
🔹 Detective (2003–2006), focusing on Assault/Family Violence and Sexual Assault investigations
🔹 Promoted to Sergeant (Oct 2006), Patrol (2006–2008)
🔹 Public Information Officer & Community Services Division Commander (2008–2010)
🔹 Promoted to Lieutenant (Oct 2010), Patrol (2010–2014)
🔹 Training Division Commander (Apr 2014–Nov 2017)
🔹 Patrol Lieutenant (Nov 2017–present)

In 2016, Lieutenant Shackleford proudly graduated from the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT). He earned an associate of education degree through Cisco College.

Outside of work, family means everything to him. He and his wife, Kaylee — his best friend — will celebrate 20 years of marriage this October. Together they have two sons: Nick, who lives in Lima, Ohio with his wife Samantha and their three children, Elizabeth (4), William (3), and Charlotte (2); and Matthew, a high school junior in Clyde who shares his dad's love of golf and is a talented musician on saxophone, trombone, and piano.

Lieutenant Shackelford leaves us with this wisdom:

"To consistently make good decisions, you must get comfortable answering this question: how much is too much; how little is not enough. You are the only person who can figure that out for your circumstances."

To the citizens: "Thank you for your constant support for 32 years! I am grateful to have served in such a wonderful community."

To his co-workers: "I'm grateful to have been allowed to work with such great people. Thank you for what you do, every day."
