The Applegate House

The Applegate House Official page of The Applegate House Then in the early 1990’s The Applegate Family purchased the property, slowly renovating it as the years went on.

Built in 1927 shortly before The Great Depression, it was one of the first homes to be erected on the Oakland Avenue block in the North Hill Neighborhood, Akron’s International District. Sitting at roughly 1500 square feet in size it is one of the largest and tallest houses on the block, featuring a signature brick chimney that’s nearly 4 stories in height. Over the decades not much was changed ar

ound the property, it’s original exterior wood siding and interior hardwood floors all managed to survive. Today it sits as a shining example of what the American dream is all about. Now for nearly a century countless families, their children born and raised here have called this place home. We believe it is critical to continue it’s preservation for the future generations, as well as preserving part of North Hill’s history.

Carol Traczyk Memorial Update:

With the recent North Main Street Construction Project the city decided to remove the memorial at its original location to use as staging grounds for the construction work.

The memorial was moved to a higher ground temporary holding location (not for display) along Oakland Avenue. Without The Applegate House (caretakers of the memorial) or the city having any direct contact with the Traczyk family as they are no longer in the area, the family was unable to be informed about the situation.

Earlier today one of those family members decided to visit the memorial and discovered it had been moved to it’s holding location. Unaware as to why it was moved they reached out for information. City officials and The Applegate House then met with the family member to explain the situation and discuss further plans for the memorial.

At this point it is unclear what will done. The family discussed relocating the memorial to their property, tho not many of Carol’s immediate family remains. Or the memorial could be returned to the same area it was originally located.

Before the North Main Street construction began we spoke with project management who suggested using the waste dirt (which now sits in a large pile before the High Level Bridge) to backfill in and level off the area of land the memorial was located on into usable recreational land, possibly turning it into a small public park.
Whether the memorial is removed or returned another idea was suggested to name the site after Carol as “Traczyk Park” once the construction project is completed.

We continue sharing updates on the project as we have more information.

The Applegate House publicly denounces the City of Akron, Ohio - Mayor's Office unenforceable so called “ban” on fireworks.

We believe celebrating Independence Day with backyard fireworks has & must always continue to be an American tradition / pastime.
Once our government begins to harass and punish the common civilian for irrelevancies, while incapable of solving real serious crimes, we slip further into dystopia.

We stand in support of safe fireworks storage and usage.

Always Remember:
-Never hold a lit firework in your hands.
- Light fireworks one-at-a-time and then move back quickly.
-Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not gone off.
-always light fireworks in a wide open area away from trees, houses and other structures.
- Have a fire extinguisher, garden hose or bucket of water ready incase of an accident.

Think Smart & Stay Safe!

God bless the U.S.A. 🇺🇸

New for this year first spring seasonal lighting display! 🟣🟡🔵
With the holiday being so early this year & even earlier next year, it’s a time crunch between Paddy’s Day breakdown and switching over for Easter. However we’re still thrilled to enjoy it for those few weeks!
