For 68 years, Father’s Day at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens has meant one thing for countless Akron families: the Father’s Day Car Show.

As the historic home of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear, our roots are deeply connected to Akron’s automotive legacy.

That’s why this event means so much to us. It’s more than a car show—it’s a tradition that brings generations of families, friends, and car enthusiasts together year after year.

This Sunday, June 21, bring the whole family to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens for the 68th Annual Father's Day Car Show featuring a NEW Touch-A-Truck experience in partnership with the City of Akron, Ohio - Mayor's Office!

Kids can get up close to the vehicles they see working in our community every day, including police cruisers, a SWAT vehicle, police motorcycles, salt trucks, sewer vacuum trucks, and more. Plus, car lovers of all ages will enjoy hundreds of classic and specialty vehicles on display as we celebrate this year's theme: A Century of Mopar.

And the fun doesn't stop there! Your admission also includes access to Stan Hywet's beautiful gardens, the Children's Playgarden and splash pad, and the America 250 exhibition inside the Manor House.

Today marks the 69th anniversary of Stan Hywet opening to the public on June 15, 1957.

This historic photograph captures the people who helped make that possible. From left: Franklin Seiberling, John L. "Jack" Handy, Virginia Seiberling Handy, Irene Seiberling Harrison, Fred Seiberling, Penfield Seiberling, and Willard Seiberling.

Earlier that year, the Seiberling family transferred the estate to the Stan Hywet Hall Foundation, ensuring that this remarkable home and gardens would be preserved and shared with the public for generations to come.

Thanks to their vision and generosity, millions of visitors have been able to experience the history, architecture, gardens, and stories that make Stan Hywet so special.

Here’s to 69 years of welcoming guests through our gates and preserving this remarkable legacy for all.

A new exhibit at the Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens honors the everyday families who built Akron.

As we commemorate the 91st anniversary of Alcoholics Anonymous this Founders’ Day Weekend, we’re reminded that a movement that has changed millions of lives around the world began in one of the smallest buildings on our estate.

The Gate Lodge, where Henrietta Seiberling hosted the historic Mother’s Day meeting in 1935, stands as a powerful symbol of hope and recovery.

To help preserve this important landmark for future generations, Stan Hywet completed a major restoration of the Lodge’s distinctive American Thatch roof in fall 2025—the first full replacement in more than 40 years.

Crafted from steam-bent cedar shingles and designed to resemble traditional English thatch, the roof is one of the most unique architectural features on the estate.

Thanks to the expertise of preservation specialists and the generosity of a private donor, this small but mighty building is protected for decades to come.

Preserving the Gate Lodge means preserving the place where history was made—and ensuring its story continues to inspire visitors from around the world.
