Join local professor and author Tracy Thomas as she shares her new book, "The First Woman Judge: The Life and Legacy of Florence Allen."

Professor Tracy Thomas, Seiberling Chair of Constitutional Law and Director of The Center for Constitutional Law, will share details about the life of Florence Allen, the nation's first woman judge and the first woman considered for the U.S. Supreme Court. A Northeast Ohio native, Allen rose through the judiciary from Cleveland's trial courts to the Ohio Supreme Court and later to the federal appellate court in Cincinnati. This presentation examines her groundbreaking career and lasting impact on women in the legal profession.

Join members of the Northern Cheyenne and Akron communities for a panel discussion on the annual Portage Path Walk, which helped inspire North American First Peoples Day in Akron and Summit County.

Panelists will share the history of this unique initiative, which grew from a longstanding cultural exchange between The Lippman School and the Northern Cheyenne Nation. They will discuss how student-led advocacy, community partnerships, and cross-cultural relationships led Akron City Council to establish North American First Peoples Day in 2018, followed by Summit County's adoption of a companion resolution in 2019. Unlike many communities, Akron and Summit County created a distinct holiday dedicated to honoring Native American history, culture, and contributions.

Since launching in Ohio in 2019, more than one million children have participated in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. We'll celebrate Dolly's life, legacy, and generosity through music, movement, and fun activities!

Music & Movement is designed for ages 1-5, but all are welcome to join the celebration.

Special Collections will host this autumn gathering of family history researchers and enthusiasts.

Mingle and share with fellow genealogists as you uncover the details of your ancestry. Library staff, volunteers from Summit County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and representatives from other local organizations will offer research consultation and membership information. Refreshments and raffle prizes, too!
