Over the last month, our officers and detectives have been working diligently to combat the ongoing surge of illegally possessed handguns throughout the City of Albany. Within just the last four days, officers have recovered five handguns while actively patrolling and responding to calls for service. These recoveries bring the Albany Police Department's monthly total to 16 illegally possessed handguns recovered.

Last night was another prime example of the outstanding work being done by our officers to address this issue. At approximately 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Second Street for a report of a group trespassing. Upon arrival, officers detained a group of individuals as part of the investigation, three of whom were found to be illegally possessing handguns.

Specifically, Antonio HUDSON was found to be in possession of a G***k 30S .45-caliber handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine. Hudson was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and one count of Criminal Trespass in the First Degree. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court this morning and remanded to the Albany County Jail.

A 16-year-old female juvenile was found to be in possession of a Lorcin L380 handgun. She was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Trespass in the First Degree. She will be arraigned in Albany County Family Court this afternoon.

A 15-year-old male juvenile was found to be in possession of a G***k 17 9mm handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Criminal Trespass in the First Degree. Due to his age, he was released on a juvenile appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Albany County Family Court this afternoon.

We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July.

This was a very busy past weekend for our members. Like many other cities in New York State, Albany experienced a large amount of violent crime in just a short period of time as highlighted by some of the incidents noted below. Unfortunately, for many Albany residents, these incidents serve as another reminder of the violence they continue to experience in their neighborhoods. They also highlight the real-world impact of reforms, such as New York's bail reform and Raise the Age, and the effect they have on public safety.

As many may have already seen on the Albany Police Department's main page, on July 5th, 2026 our officers recovered two loaded handguns which were illegally possessed by two separate 13-year-olds. In both unrelated incidents, the juveniles fled from officers while armed with the loaded handguns, resulting in foot pursuits. Thankfully, during each foot pursuit, our officers were able to take the juveniles into custody without incident. Both juveniles were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd. Due to their ages, each juvenile was released shortly after their respective incident with an appearance ticket to appear at Family Court at a later date.

On July 5th, as officers were attempting to deal with unruly crowds gathered in the area of the 400 block of Hudson Av, a 14-year-old shot fireworks directly at officers and occupied homes. The juvenile attempted to flee officers on foot, however was taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. This juvenile was similarly released shortly after the incident with an appearance ticket to appear at Family Court at a later date.

Separate from these arrests, our officers also responded to a high volume of additional violent incidents. Due to this high volume, we simply cannot go into detail on each, however some of the notable events were as follows;

-A confirmed shots fired on July 6th in the area of N Lake Av and Second St

-The shooting of two persons on July 6th while in the area of Hudson Av and Quail St

-A confirmed shots fired on July 5th in the area of the 200 block of Ontario St

-The shooting homicide of an adult female victim on July 5th in the area of the 200 block of Washington Av

-The stabbing of an adult female victim on July 5th in the area of the 200 block of Central Av

-The arson of two separate vehicles on July 4th and 5th in the area of Barrows St and Second Av and Livingston Av and N Lake, respectively

-A confirmed shots fired on July 4th while in the area of the 200 block of Western Av

-A confirmed shots fired on July 4th while in the area of the 100 block of Lark St

-The stabbing of an adult male victim on July 4th in the area of the 400 block of Central Av

Despite being understaffed across nearly every unit within the department—requiring officers to work more than 30 mandated overtime shifts over the holiday weekend—our members continue to answer every call for service and work tirelessly to protect this city.

Some of the notable incidents this past week:

On Monday June 22nd, 2026, while on patrol, Albany Police Officers located a 15-year-old juvenile male who was wanted in connection with an ongoing assault investigation. Specifically, on June 3rd, 2026, officers responded to the area of Tyler Trice Terrace for a report of an adult male suffering from a laceration to his head. Through investigation, it was determined that the 15-year-old juvenile struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat, causing serious physical injury to include internal bleeding and a traumatic brain injury. The juvenile suspect additionally had an outstanding Family Court warrant for violating probation at the time of his arrest. The juvenile was arraigned in Albany County Family Court on the charges of Assault 1st and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th and remanded to a secure facility. This marks the juvenile's sixth arrest - just last April (2025) he was arrested by our detectives for a knife point robbery.

On Tuesday June 16th, 2026, while on patrol, Albany Police Officers located Hernan Raul Solano URUCHIMA who was wanted in connection with an ongoing domestic robbery incident. Specifically, on June 15th, 2026, officers responded to the 500 block of Central Av for a female who reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. Through investigation, it was determined that URUCHIMA showed up at the victim's work and while the victim was leaving, confronted the victim before ultimately forcing the victim into his vehicle. While in the vehicle, URUCHIMA stole property from the victim in effort to prohibit the victim from escape and further assaulted the victim. URUCHIMA was arraigned in Albany City Court and remanded to Albany County Jail on the charges of Robbery 1st, Robbery 2nd, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st, Aggravated Criminal Contempt (Violation of an Order of Protection), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th, and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing.

On Thursday June 25, 2026, Albany Police Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on Kenosha Street in connection to an ongoing shooting investigation where Xavier IRVIN was taken into custody. On Thursday, June 11, 2026 officers responded to Stanwix Street for reports of an individual shot. Officer’s located a 26-year old male with a gunshot wound to his arm. The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment. IRVIN was arraigned in Albany City Court and was remanded to the Albany County Jail for Attempted Murder 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

On Thursday June 25, 2026 Albany Police Detectives located Tara COBBINS who was wanted in connection to a stabbing incident that occurred on June 18, 2026 in the area of Washington Avenue and Ontario Street. Through investigation, it was determined that after an altercation, COBBINS stabbed the victim in the leg with a knife. COBBINS was arraigned in Albany City Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail on the charges of Assault 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

On Sunday June 28, 2026, while on patrol, Albany Police Officers located Jusa STRATTON who was wanted in connection with an ongoing domestic robbery investigation. Specifically, on June 23, 2026, STRATTON entered the vehicle of the victim without permission and punched the victim multiple times. STRATTON then proceeded to steal the victim’s property. The incident occurred in the presence of a child. STRATTON was arraigned in Albany City Court on the charges of Robbery 2nd, Assault 3rd, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Endangering the Welfare of a Child and bail was set which he immediately posted.

On multiple dates within the past week, detectives continued various narcotics investigations which resulted in the recovery over 30+ grams of methamphetamine and 15+ grams of crack co***ne and fentanyl.

In an effort to provide transparency, increase public awareness, and offer a better understanding of the work being performed every day to keep our community safe, we would like to begin periodically sharing information about significant arrests, investigations, and notable incidents handled by the men and woman of this department. Below are just a few examples that have occurred within the last week.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Albany Police Detectives, in coordination with the Emergency Services Team, executed a search warrant in the area of North Manning Boulevard and Clinton Avenue as part of an investigation into a May 2026 shooting. The shooting occurred in the area of the 500 block of First Street and resulted in a 28-year-old male being struck by gunfire. Through investigation, detectives identified 32-year-old Jahmel INMAN as the suspect. INMAN was located and apprehended during the ex*****on of the search warrant. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, and Menacing in the Second Degree. Additionally, during his attempt to evade apprehension, INMAN was charged with Kidnapping in the Second Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Robbery in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. This arrest marks the 9th arrest of INMAN by law enforcement.

On Friday, June 12, 2026, Albany Police officers responded to 517 Western Avenue (Albany Public Library) for a report of a loaded handgun stolen from a vehicle. Through investigation, 23-year-old Moses WATKINS was identified and apprehended just hours after the initial report. Following his arrest, WATKINS directed detectives to a nearby residence that he had unlawfully entered while attempting to evade police and conceal the stolen firearm. The firearm was recovered, and WATKINS was charged with Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. Notably, WATKINS had been arrested by the Albany Police Department just one day earlier, on June 11, 2026, after unlawfully entering and remaining inside a stranger's basement. This arrest marks the 19th of WATKINS by law enforcement.

On Tuesday June 16, 2026, Albany Police Detectives, in coordination with the US Marshals Task Force, executed a search warrant in the area of Sheridan Avenue and Lexington Avenue as part of an investigation into a November 2025 home invasion. The home invasion occurred in the 100 block of Spring St when multiple suspects unlawfully entered the victim's home and demanded his property at knife point. Through investigation, detectives identified 22-year-old Zyaire MACKEY-BAILEY as the suspect. MACKEY-BAILEY was located and apprehended during the ex*****on of the search warrant and charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Robbery in the Second Degree. The other suspects have previously been arrested for this incident.

Multiple narcotics related arrests were also made within this last week, resulting in the recovery of 10+ grams of crack co***ne.

Also on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Albany Police Detectives located and apprehended 24-year-old Naijateke JOHNSON on multiple outstanding bench and arrest warrants, as well as in connection with a separate robbery investigation. Detectives identified JOHNSON as a suspect in a recent strong-arm robbery, in which he assaulted the victim until the victim lost consciousness. JOHNSON continued the assault after the victim became unconscious, repeatedly stomping on the victim's head while he lay on the ground. During his apprehension, JOHNSON became combative with detectives, punching, biting, and spitting at officers. He was ultimately taken into custody and charged with Assault in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, and Resisting Arrest. JOHNSON was also processed on multiple outstanding failure-to-appear warrants.

Lastly, on top of the regular call volume our patrol unit is tasked with handling, they also successfully staffed the Capital Pride Parade and Knicks watch party this past weekend without incident.

Mr. O John Williamson, a member of the Public Safety Committee, is publicly calling out our officers on Facebook for being unprofessional and accusing them of conducting a traffic stop on May 18th without any basis and accusing them of racially profiling. We submitted a FOIL request for the body camera footage from said incident and we are giving you the opportunity to correct your statement before the body camera footage is released, which we intend to do.

Albany police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning on Lark Street.

On Monday, March 30, 2026 around 2:05 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Lark Street near Orange Street for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his lower leg. The juvenile was treated on scene by the Albany Fire Department and Emergency Medical Personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital in stable condition.

Further investigation determined that the shooting occurred inside a residence on the 100 block of Lark Street, and that the juvenile’s injury was accidentally self-inflicted.

The 15-year-old whose name will not be released due to his age has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Reckless Endangerment 1st.

He will be arraigned in Albany County Family Court on a later date.

Additionally, a 16-year-old male who was present during the shooting incident has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

He will be arraigned this afternoon in Albany County Family Court.

Juvenile arrested and released for violent felony charges:

On March 4, 2026, at approximately 11:00 A.M., while in the area of Lark Street and Spring Street, two of our Criminal Investigation Unit Detectives witnessed a Property Damage Auto Accident where a male operating an e-bike struck another motorist, causing damage, and then fled the scene. Detectives attempted to stop the male on the e-bike, and after giving chase, ultimately apprehended the suspect in the area of Henry Johnson Blvd., and Orange Street. While being detained, the suspect threw a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine to the ground. The 17-year-old male was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, and was issued several Uniformed Traffic Tickets. The 17-year-old male was arraigned at Albany County Family Court and was subsequently released to the supervision of Albany County Probation with electronic monitoring.
