Just before 2pm the Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association was dispatched to the 400 block of Main Street for a possible brush fire. Brush 412 arrived first on scene confirming a working 10x15 brush fire spreading into the wood line. Car 402 established command, and two 1 3/4" hand lines were stretched, allowing personnel to quickly surround and contain the fire. Ashaway Ambulance Association was added to standby, Hopkinton Police Department shut down Main Street to allow our firefighters to work, and Rhode Island Energy responded for power lines involved. All units were back in service within 30 minutes and Main Street was reopened to normal traffic flow.

Just before 4pm this afternoon during the thunderstorm, The Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association, along with Hope Valley - Wyoming Fire District Ladder 911 were dispatched to Wellstown Road for a reported lightning strike with the attached garage on fire. Car 401 arrived on scene and reported a working fire and requested a 1st alarm be transmitted. Squad 400 laid a 4” feeder from High Street and deployed 2 hand lines. One Crew made entry into the house while the second crew forced entry into the garage. The crew from Ladder 911 made a trench cut in the breezeway to cut off extension to the house. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes. Outstanding work by all keeping the fire from extending into the house.

Just before 10pm, the Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association,Ashaway Ambulance Association and Hopkinton Police Department were dispatched to Juniper Drive for a motor vehicle accident, reported to be a rollover with serious injuries and entrapment. Life Star was requested while units were still responding to the scene. Car 401 arrived first on scene and reported a single car on its side with confirmed entrapment and minor injuries. The helicopter was cancelled before ever taking off. Our members worked to stabilize the vehicle and put the "Jaws-Of-Life" to work extricating the occupant. The single occupant was extricated and transferred to EMS care within 20 minutes. Ashaway Ambulance personnel transported the patient to Rhode Island Hospital in stable condition. Members remained on scene to assist the wrecker with removing the vehicle. All units were in service around 11:30pm. Great teamwork by everyone involved!
