This week, we are especially grateful for Corey Lake and the School District of Mellen for their commitment to supporting students through Youth Apprenticeship.

Through his leadership and support, students are gaining real world experiences, building confidence, discovering career pathways, and creating meaningful connections within their community. Opportunities like these can truly change the direction of a student’s future, and we are grateful for the time, encouragement, and care Corey pours into helping students succeed.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of students and helping open doors for the next generation.

Seven CESA 12 school districts, fielding 14 teams, participated in the Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, May 7 at Vaughn Public Library in Ashland in their fabulous new event space. What better place to have this competition than at the library. The participating districts were Bayfield (2 teams), Drummond, Hayward, Mellen, South Shore (4 teams), Washburn (4 teams) and Winter.

The Battle of the Books is a student competition open to all districts in CESA 12. At the beginning of each school year, the districts that elected to participate in the competition select students from grades 4-8 to read 20 books during the school year, preparing for the Battle of the Books competition held in May each year. The Battle of the Books is a trivia format event with the top three teams being recognized.

Our winner for this year's competition was South Shore Team 1. Placing second was Washburn Team 4 and our third place finisher was Drummond.

Congratulations South Shore Team 1, Washburn Team 4 and Drummond. And a BIG thank you to all the districts and students that participated in this school-year long event. And many thanks to the Vaughn Library for their assistance in a successful event.
