Congratulations Officer Payne!
Today, Officer Payne was honored by the Cobb Chamber with the Leadership and Excellence Award, recognizing nearly five decades of leadership, dedication, and service to the law enforcement profession.
Since joining the Acworth Police Department in 2015, Officer Payne has continued to make an impact through training, mentorship, and his commitment to developing the next generation of officers.
This past year, he also dedicated countless hours to researching the line-of-duty death of Acworth Officer Leonard Byrd “Pete” Rainey. His efforts helped ensure Officer Rainey’s name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Memorial.
Officer Payne’s career is a testament to leadership, service, and a commitment to never forgetting those who came before us.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Officer Payne!

Today, Officer LeFave and Officer Dye were recognized by the Cobb County Law Enforcement Association for their lifesaving actions at Chick-fil-A on August 20, 2026.

While waiting for their orders, the officers were approached by a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Without hesitation, they sprang into action, providing lifesaving medical aid, controlling severe bleeding, and applying tourniquets until additional help arrived.

While caring for the victim, they also gathered and relayed critical information about the suspect and the incident to responding officers.

Their calm, quick thinking and immediate actions helped save a life. We are proud of Officer LeFave and Officer Dye for stepping up when it mattered most and demonstrating the dedication to serving others that defines our officers.
