Nicholas House’s mission is to help families experiencing homelessness become self-sufficient by providing them with stable housing while addressing the root causes of their homelessness so that they never become homeless again.

✨ Board Member Spotlight: Jason Cole ✨

Jason has served on the Nicholas House Board of Directors since 2023 and currently serves as Board Treasurer, overseeing the Finance Committee. Professionally, Jason is an Assurance Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Jason was first introduced to Nicholas House through Amber Cutler and other PwC colleagues already involved with the organization. He quickly connected with the mission of supporting families experiencing homelessness while helping keep families together as they work toward long-term stability.

With his background in auditing and financial processes, Jason has helped strengthen financial policies, coordinate audit efforts, and support greater transparency and accountability across the organization.

One accomplishment Jason is especially proud of is seeing Nicholas House continue to grow stronger and more stable over the past several years while improving financial systems and audit processes. He values the organization’s commitment to transparency and being a strong steward of donor resources - helping to show donors exactly where their recourses are going.

Outside of Nicholas House, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and their family dog. He is also passionate about fitness, running, and spending time outdoors.

Jason remains actively involved in his church community in Roswell, where he has helped establish financial policies and support leadership efforts since the church was founded in 2017. He also volunteers with organizations serving families across North Fulton County.

This Father’s Day, we honor the fathers and father figures who continue showing up for their children through incredibly difficult circumstances 💙

In conversations around homelessness, fathers are often overlooked — yet many are navigating job loss, housing instability, financial hardship, mental health challenges, and the overwhelming pressure of trying to provide for their families during times of crisis.

At Nicholas House, we believe families belong together.

Unlike many traditional shelters that separate fathers from daughters or divide families based on family composition, Nicholas House is committed to keeping families together during hardship. We know that preserving the family unit helps reduce additional trauma for both parents and children while creating a stronger foundation for healing and stability.

Every family deserves the opportunity to stay connected, supported, and hopeful as they work toward rebuilding their lives — regardless of what their family looks like.

We are incredibly grateful to Speedway Children’s Charities for their continued support of Nicholas House families 💙

For the past three years, Nicholas House has been honored to receive grant funding through Speedway Children’s Charities’ competitive grant process, made possible by funds raised throughout the year at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This support helps strengthen the programs and services that provide housing, stability, and resources for families experiencing homelessness, and we are deeply thankful for Speedway Children’s Charities’ continued investment in our mission and the families we serve.

A special thank you to Chris Miller, Founder & CEO of Be Compelled, for helping coordinate a recent Day of Service at Nicholas House in partnership with Send Relief Atlanta through the Southern Baptist Association and students from Hope College in Michigan 💙

This incredible group spent the day serving our families through hands-on projects across our shelter campus, including weeding, mowing grass, cutting back shrubbery, and helping create a cleaner and more welcoming environment for families experiencing homelessness.

The team also took on the important task of cleaning out and organizing our donation shed, where we store essential items for families such as toiletries, clothing, bedding, and household necessities.

We are so grateful for the volunteers, partners, and organizations who generously give their time, energy, and heart to support Nicholas House families in meaningful ways. It truly takes a community working together to help families thrive ✨

We are so grateful to Mr. John Horton and the Knights of Columbus, Council 660, for helping coordinate important kitchen maintenance projects at our Boulevard shelter, including removing the dishwasher and sink and arranging for our stove and oven to be professionally cleaned.

Back to School Bash 2026 is just ONE month away! 🎒📚

On Saturday, July 11, Nicholas House will celebrate children and families as they prepare for a new school year — and there’s still time to get involved!

We are continuing to collect backpacks and school supplies for students of all ages to help ensure every child starts the school year feeling prepared, confident, and excited.

This is also a great opportunity for companies, churches, community groups, and volunteer teams to make a direct impact by hosting a backpack drive or coming together to donate these much needed supplies.

Whether you want to volunteer, donate supplies, sponsor part of the event, or support families in another way, we’d love to have you involved in making this year’s Back to School Bash special for our children.

✨ Board Member Spotlight: Kimberly Brown ✨

Kimberly has served on the Nicholas House Board of Directors for nearly three years and currently serves on the Audit and Finance Committee. Professionally, Kimberly is a Senior Manager of Financial Controlling for North America at AGCO Corporation.

Kimberly first connected with Nicholas House through a United Way board leadership training program that introduced participants to nonprofit board opportunities throughout Atlanta. What immediately stood out to her about Nicholas House was its commitment to supporting families experiencing homelessness regardless of family composition and providing more than just temporary assistance.

That mission is deeply personal for Kimberly. She remembers her own father losing his job when she was young and the uncertainty her family experienced during that time. She understands firsthand how quickly life circumstances can change and believes families deserve support during difficult seasons — including fathers and multigenerational households who are often overlooked by traditional assistance programs.

Kimberly especially admires Nicholas House’s holistic approach to helping families through case management, budgeting support, employment resources, and pathways toward self sufficiency.

One of Kimberly’s favorite Nicholas House memories was attending the Back to School Bash with her son, Jared, a collegiate athlete, who helped provide backpacks to children and spent time connecting with the families throughout the event. Seeing her children become involved in serving the community has been especially meaningful to her.

Outside of Nicholas House, Kimberly enjoys traveling, spending time with family, attending her son’s football games, and playing strategy-based board games and cards. She is also active in her church community.

Kimberly and her husband, Derrick Sr., are proud parents of three children: Derrick Jr., Jared, and Jillian, and she believes strongly in teaching the next generation the importance of giving back and helping others whenever possible.

These practical items help us create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parents and children working toward stability and independence.
