As TCU – Texas Christian University heads to Dublin for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, we're celebrating the stories that connect Ireland and Texas.

One of the most remarkable is Margaret Heffernan Borland, whose family emigrated from County Tipperary to Texas in 1829. In 1873, she became the only known woman to own, lead, and manage her own cattle drive along the Chisholm Trail, contributing to the ranching heritage that built Fort Worth and the American West.

Today, that Irish pioneering spirit lives on in Fort Worth through companies like Kerry Taste & Nutrition, whose Irish roots and food innovation continue to strengthen the connection between Ireland and Texas.

From cattle trails to cutting-edge food science, nearly 200 years of shared heritage continue to bring our communities together, reminding us that this weekend's game in Dublin is , it's about the people, partnerships, and shared stories that continue to connect Ireland and Texas.

The Consulate was delighted to support the attendance of Director/ Writer Alan Leonard and Producer Níall Carver at the screening of BP Fallon: Rock ’n’ Roll Wizard as part of the wonderful Sound Unseen Film Festival in Austin.

Their documentary celebrates the remarkable life of BP Fallon, one of Ireland’s most distinctive cultural figures, whose career has left a lasting mark on music, journalism, broadcasting, and storytelling.

Like many Irish artists, BP Fallon has deep connections with Austin and the surrounding area. We look forward to continuing to support Irish artists and cultural exchanges in a region brimming with creative talent.

We are delighted to congratulate Molly Cornett and Kirstyn Smith of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, recipients of the 2026 Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship.

Established in 2017, the scholarship commemorates the Choctaw Nation's act of generosity during Ireland's Great Famine, while building on that historic friendship with new connections.

This autumn, Molly and Kirstyn will begin master’s programmes at University College Cork, continuing a powerful legacy of cultural exchange.

We wish them every success in the year ahead.
