More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.

Today is National SAFE Day. In 2013, 13-year-old Brooklynn Mae Mohler, after visiting a friend with an unlocked firearm in the house, was fatally shot while they handled the gun. Mohler’s parents began the mission of the Brooklynn Mae Mohler Foundation (BMMF) to prevent future accidents by keeping children SAFE:

1. Secure all fi****ms in the home.
2. Ask about unsecured fi****ms when children visit friends.
3. Frequently talk to your children about the dangers of fi****ms.
4. Educate and Empower others to be SAFE.

Please keep these tips in mind for your children, and if you ever need a gun lock, our office has them available at our front office. Also you can visit https://projectchildsafe.org/ or https://besmartforkids.org/ for many resources on gun safety.
