Bainbridge Fire Department Establishes Specialty Grain Bin and Rope Rescue Units Thanks to Community Donations and Training Partnerships

We are proud to recognize Nutrien Ag Solutions of Bainbridge and the Bainbridge/Perry Township Mennonite community for their generous donation of funds. These contributions have enabled the department to purchase vital equipment and provide advanced training for personnel to establish specialized grain bin and rope rescue units.

Fire department staff are currently undergoing the technical training required to safely operate these specialty rescue units. This new capability will provide a profound benefit not only to our local community but also to the surrounding regional areas through mutual aid agreements, ensuring enhanced safety for agricultural workers and residents across the region.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Ohio Fire Academy for their invaluable assistance in facilitating and conducting this critical training.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community partners and regional training leaders, our department is better equipped to respond to specialized emergencies and protect lives.

On August 3, 2026, fire department crews were dispatched at 16:10 to a motor vehicle crash. Emergency units arrived on the scene at 16:19 to find two vehicles with heavy damage.

Fire department crews utilized mechanical means to free an entrapped individual. Engine 801, Engine 802, and Medic 816 operated at the scene. The Ross County Coroner and the Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded to assist.

Bainbridge Fire Department receives National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) emergency drinking water grant for 2026.

Keeping firefighters hydrated during long incidents or disasters such as wildfires is a critical need for fire departments, yet many volunteer departments struggle with limited budget and resources. To help departments meet this need, Anheuser-Busch will donate 1.5 million cans of clean drinking water in 2026 to prepare local volunteer firefighters with vital resources ahead of the annual summer wildfire season, rather than waiting until after disaster strikes. The program has supported volunteer fire departments with nearly 12 million cans of water through 3,772 deliveries across almost all 50 states.

Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire on East Second Street

Bainbridge, Oh – August 1, 2026 – At 11:17 AM, fire crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire on East Second Street. Engine 801 arrived on the scene at 11:21 AM with smoke showing from the building.

Upon entry, the crew of Engine 801 located a room and contents fire. The fire was quickly contained, allowing command to disregard the response of incoming mutual aid units.

The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm. They attempted to extinguish the flames using a portable fire extinguisher, but the extinguisher failed to operate. One juvenile occupant was treated and released at the scene for minor burns.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be the improper use and/or storage of a charging device.

Paint Creek Joint Fire District, Huntington Fire Department, and Twin Township Fire Department were initially dispatched but were canceled en route. Engine 801, Medic 816, and Command 819 operated at the scene. The Ross County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's Office Communications also assisted during the incident.

Safety Reminder:
This incident serves as an important reminder for the community regarding home fire safety:

- Charging Devices: Always ensure proper use and storage of cell phone chargers, avoiding placement on soft surfaces or leaving them plugged in unnecessarily.
- Fire Extinguishers: Conduct regular inspections of household fire extinguishers to ensure they are fully charged and operable.
- Smoke Alarms: Regularly test your smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly, as early detection saves lives.

🚨HB20 is now law in Ohio.

Thank you to State Representative Thomas Hall and Phil Plummer for State Senate for their efforts with this legislation.

House Bill 20 increases penalties for individuals who interfere with fire fighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, and other public safety professionals while they are performing their duties.

Emergency scenes are dangerous enough. Every second counts, and it's critical to be able to focus on protecting lives without unnecessary interference.

Another example of what can be accomplished when we all work together to make this important public safety legislation a reality.

Last evening at 10:06pm Bainbridge Firefighters were dispatched to 655 Fairview Road, Perry Township, Pike County in reference to a camper fire.

Command 819, Engine 801, Tanker 811 and 5 Bainbridge Firefighters responded to the call.

No injuries were reported. The camper was a total loss. The Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.

Please join us in congratulating Homer Jenkins on his promotion to the rank of Captain and Cameron Stuebs on his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant. Both individuals have shown exceptional dedication to our department and the community we serve.
