🚨 ROCK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE — COMMUNITY ALERT 🚨
Attention Rock County and surrounding rural communities:
On August 13, 2026, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle. During the investigation, the incident developed into a stolen vehicle case involving a second vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Valentine after observant citizens recognized the vehicle from a Facebook post made by the owners. The suspect has been taken into custody.
We would like to remind everyone that leaving your vehicle unlocked with the keys inside is an invitation for theft. Please take a few extra seconds to lock your vehicles and remove your keys, even when you are at home or in a rural community.
We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to all of the concerned citizens and law enforcement officers who assisted with this investigation, the recovery of the stolen vehicle, and the apprehension of the suspect.
This incident is another reminder that law enforcement cannot be everywhere at once. Our communities are safer when citizens remain observant and are willing to report suspicious activity when something doesn’t look right. If you see something unusual or suspicious, don’t hesitate to call.
⚠️ DRUG SAFETY REMINDER
Although we live in rural communities, drugs remain a serious threat. During this investigation, officers recovered items that field-tested positive for amphetamines and/or fentanyl.
If you encounter a suspicious package, substance, vehicle, or other item that you believe may be associated with drugs:
DO NOT approach, touch, or handle it.
Fentanyl and other dangerous substances can pose serious health risks. Do not put yourself at risk by attempting to investigate or handle suspicious items yourself.
Keep your distance and contact your local law enforcement agency or dial 911.
Once again, thank you to everyone involved in the investigation, recovery of the stolen vehicle, and apprehension of the suspect. Your awareness, willingness to report suspicious activity, and cooperation with law enforcement make a real difference in keeping our communities safe.
