Current Situation
Highway 1 is open and travelers can now travel the entire length of the road. Please use caution as firefighters and heavy equipment are actively working along Highway 1.
The Timber Fire held steady on Sunday with no growth and containment remaining at 39%, even with increased winds along the coast and ridge tops. As direct and indirect line construction, structure protection, and mop‑up have progressed, some suppression resources have been released to support other incidents across the country. Initial Attack crews remain staged along Highway 1, ready to respond to any new fire starts, and firefighters continue clearing brush within State Parks.
Crews are making solid progress across the fire. Firefighters were flown into a difficult area south of the Cabezo Prieto Trail to extinguish hot spots and guide helicopter water drops, reducing heat in that section. Heavy equipment is operating from Los Padres Reservoir to Chews Ridge and over to Arroyo Seco, repairing roads and removing remaining suppression debris. Indirect lines and hose-lays remain secure and are being strengthened, and structure protection has been completed around the Apple Pie Ridge community and at Tassajara Hot Springs.
Crews will continue to extend indirect line from Cold Springs along the Rodeo Flat Trail toward Memorial Park Campground. Firefighters are also evaluating crew placement in the rugged terrain north of Cold Springs, where activity remains higher. Containment efforts continue to focus on reinforcing accessible portions of the fire’s perimeter. Infrared drones remain a key tool for locating remaining heat so crews or aircraft can respond quickly.
A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in place to support firefighting operations and protect firefighter safety. All unauthorized aircraft—including recreational drones—are prohibited. If you fly, we can’t.
Weather & Air Quality
Following the passage of the front the fire will see reduced winds and moderate humidity recoveries. Temperatures will remain seasonal with a warming slightly towards the end of the week. No precipitation is expected. Live and dead vegetation will remain available to burn as day-time humidities remain low.
