NEW GERMANY RD - BITTINGER - VEHICLE FIRE COMMERCIAL - CO90 E61 T66 2604649 - TG:TAC 2 - 21:36

Units from Bittinger and Grantsville responded ealier tonight for a commercial vehicle fire. Personnel arrived to find a brake fire and quickly extinguished the fire. Units remained on scene for a little over an hour. Maryland State Police was on scene investigating the incident.

Our May BBQ was a huge success! We would first like to thank the community for coming out and supporting the department. We would also like to extend a special thank you to all of our members and auxiliary personnel who put in a full day’s work to make the first BBQ of the year such a success.

Our next BBQ will be held on Saturday, June 13th, and we look forward to seeing everyone there!

At approximately 7:55 PM, emergency personnel from the Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department and Garrett County Emergency Services were dispatched to the 1900 block of Frank Brenneman Road in Bittinger for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Units arrived on scene to find a single vehicle that had left the roadway and collided with a structure. Emergency crews quickly provided patient care, and requested Maryland State Police Aviation due to the extent of injuries. The patient was transported by Medic 90-1 to a nearby landing zone for transfer to the helicopter.

Fire personnel remained on scene for over an hour stabilizing the damaged structure.

Garrett County Sheriff's Office was on scene investigating the incident.

Elevated fire danger today

🚨 ELEVATED FIRE DANGER – TODAY 🚨

Garrett County and surrounding areas of Western Maryland and Eastern West Virginia are experiencing elevated fire danger through early this evening due to:
• Low humidity (20–30%)
• Dry fuels/vegetation
• West to southwest wind gusts up to 25 mph

Any fire that starts could spread rapidly.

Residents and visitors are urged to:
• Avoid all outdoor burning
• Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials
• Keep vehicles off dry grass
• Use extreme caution with equipment that may produce sparks

Conditions will be most critical this afternoon into early evening.

Stay alert and report any signs of fire immediately to 911.

County Emergency Management will continue to monitor conditions.
