We had a GREAT morning with the students of Garrett Christian Academy!
We learned what it meant to volunteer and serve our community. Fun fact: all of Garrett County's fire departments are VOLUNTEER. π¨π»βπ
We learned firefighters don't just fight fires, although that's cool, we respond to car accidents, trees down, helicopter landings, brush fires, alarms, ambulance assists, and many other things. π
We learned all the crazy sounds π a breathing apparatus makes. And how quickly firefighters have to move through a house while they control their breathing. π«
We even practiced getting low, because smoke goes up β¬οΈ - we go down! β¬οΈ
We talked about the importance of not hiding π«£ from firefighters π¨π»βπ! We tested the kids to see how loud they could be so firefighters could find them in the dark, smoke-filled room.
They even got to see our cool tools πͺ π§―, including our thermal imaging camera πΈ and the inside of the fire truck π. AND they met Chief the Fire Dog!
We have a great future of firefighters in Garrett Christian Academy!
Thanks to Firefighter Shaina, Firefighter Chris, Firefighter Jess, Firefighter Kendra, and Firefighter Isaac.
