Two calls. One mission. Serving our community.

Today, the members of Deep Creek VFC answered the call on two separate emergencies.

Earlier, Boat 30M, Utility 38, along with our mutual aid partners from Deer Park Community VFD and Bittinger VFD, responded to assist EMS with an incident on Deep Creek Lake.

Later in the day, Deep Creek VFC assisted Garrett County Emergency Services with establishing a landing zone for Trooper 5 during another unrelated emergency.

Days like today are a reminder that emergencies can happen when we least expect them. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved, and we wish both patients a safe, speedy, and complete recovery.

Behind every response are dedicated 100% volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel who leave their families, jobs, and daily lives to help neighbors in need—day or night, rain or shine.

By supporting the Maryland Firefighters 50/50 Raffle, you’re helping support the volunteers who stand ready when your community needs them most.

Support Local. Win Big.

🚲 SHARING THE ROAD: STAY SAFE WHILE CYCLING! 🚲
Today is National Bike Day, and with more people out on our Garrett County roads, it is vital that both cyclists and drivers understand how to share the road safely! At Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company Inc., we want to ensure every ride ends with a safe arrival home.

Whether you're commuting or riding for leisure, following these road rules can prevent accidents and save lives.

Road Safety Tips for Cyclists:
Ride with Traffic: Always ride in the same direction as vehicles, never against them.

Be Predictable: Use hand signals when turning or stopping so drivers know your intentions.

Stay Visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing and use front and rear lights, especially during early morning or evening rides.

Obey All Signs: Cyclists must follow the same rules of the road as motorists, including stopping at stop signs and red lights.

Stay Alert: Avoid using headphones or mobile devices while riding so you can hear approaching vehicles.

Tips for Drivers:
Give Space: Maintain at least three feet of distance when passing a cyclist.

Look Twice: Always check your mirrors and blind spots for cyclists before turning or opening car doors.

Be Patient: Remember that cyclists have the right to use the road; wait for a safe opportunity to pass.

👇 LET'S TALK ROAD SAFETY!
Safety is a two-way street, and we are committed to keeping Deep Creek safe for everyone!

🔌 POWER UP SAFELY IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS! 🔌
Whether you’re relaxing in a cabin or hitting the road in an RV this weekend, keeping your devices charged is a must. However, charging phones and portable power banks in smaller, enclosed spaces requires a bit of extra caution to prevent fire hazards.

At Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company Inc., we want to make sure your getaway stays powered up and worry-free. Portable electronics use lithium-ion batteries that can overheat if not handled properly.

Safe Charging "Power Rules" for Cabins & RVs:
Avoid the "Soft Surface" Trap: Never charge phones, tablets, or power banks on beds, sofas, or piles of clothes. These surfaces trap heat and can lead to a fire.

Hard & Flat is Best: Always place your devices on a hard, non-flammable surface like a countertop or table while they are plugged in.

Stick to the Original: Use the charging cables and power adapters that came with your device. Cheap aftermarket chargers are a leading cause of battery failure and overheating.

Don't Overdo It: Unplug your devices once they reach 100%. Leaving them connected indefinitely—especially in the warmer temperatures of a cabin loft or an RV—can cause dangerous heat buildup.

The "Once Over" Inspection: Before you plug in, check your cables and batteries for fraying, swelling, or cracks. If it looks damaged, don't charge it!

👇 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
We are committed to keeping our community safe, but we need your help.

Do you have a dedicated "charging station" in your RV or cabin?

What’s your go-to tip for keeping tech organized and safe while camping?

Drop a comment below and share your setup! Let’s help our neighbors in Garrett County enjoy the outdoors safely.

Last week, Engine Tanker 37 answered a different kind of call… a water battle! 💦🚒

As part of Garrett Christian Academy’s Field Day celebration, Engine Tanker 37 was proud to join the fun and help cool things down with an epic water battle for the students. The kids brought the energy, the firefighters brought the water, and everyone had an absolute blast!

Thank you to Garrett Christian Academy for the invitation and for allowing us to be part of such a special day. We love opportunities like this to connect with our community and help create memories that will last a lifetime.

Congratulations to all the students, teachers, and staff on completing another successful school year! We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and well-deserved summer break. ☀️
