⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING — GARRETT COUNTY, MD ⚠️

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for northern Garrett County until 2:00 PM EDT.

🌬️ HAZARD: Wind gusts up to 60 MPH
⛈️ Storm moving southeast at 35 MPH

Areas impacted include Accident, Bittinger, Friendsville, McHenry, Deep Creek Lake State Park, Swallow Falls State Park, New Germany, Jennings, McComas Beach, Selbysport, and surrounding areas.

Damaging winds may bring down trees and large branches, cause power outages, block roads, and turn unsecured objects into projectiles.

Seek shelter inside a sturdy building and stay away from windows until the storm passes.

⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING – SOUTHWESTERN GARRETT COUNTY ⚠️

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern Garrett County until 10:45 PM tonight.

⛈️ At 10:03 PM, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from near Oakland to near Terra Alta, moving southeast at approximately 25 mph.

💨 HAZARD: Wind gusts up to 60 mph

Damaging winds may bring down trees and power lines and could result in localized power outages or blocked roadways.

Residents in the warned area should move indoors and remain in a sturdy building, away from windows, until the storm has passed.

Please continue to monitor weather alerts as storms move through the area tonight.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is now in effect for northern Garrett County until 10:15 PM tonight, Thursday, September 3.

⛈️ HAZARD: Wind gusts up to 60 MPH
📍 GARRETT COUNTY AREAS IMPACTED: Bittinger, Grantsville, Accident, and surrounding areas
➡️ MOVEMENT: Storms are moving east at approximately 30 MPH.

Please take shelter now if you’re in the warned area. Move indoors to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows.

Winds of 60 MPH can bring down trees and large branches, block roadways, cause power outages, and damage homes and vehicles. Unsecured outdoor objects may also be blown around.

🚗 If you’re traveling, use extra caution and be prepared for downed trees, debris, and potentially blocked roads.

Stay weather aware as this line of severe thunderstorms moves across northern Garrett County.

A second strong thunderstorm is impacting northwestern Garrett County through approximately 9:45 PM.

💨 Hazard: Wind gusts up to 50 mph
📡 Source: Radar indicated
➡️ Movement: East at 30 mph

Areas that may be impacted include: Bittinger, Grantsville, Friendsville, Accident, Deep Creek Lake State Park, McHenry, Selbysport, Big Run State Park, Jennings, Keysers Ridge, and Mineral Spring.

The storm may also impact Interstate 68 between mile markers 1 and 19.

Strong winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. If you are outdoors, consider moving inside a sturdy building until the storm passes.

⛈️ A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until midnight for Garrett County and western Maryland.

A strong thunderstorm is moving across northwestern Garrett County and is expected to impact the area through approximately 9:00 PM.

💨 Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible, which could bring down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects.

The storm is moving east at approximately 35 mph.

⚠️ A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until midnight for Garrett County.

Residents should:
• Move indoors as storms approach.
• Secure loose outdoor objects if it is safe to do so.
• Be alert for downed trees, limbs, and power lines.
• Use caution if traveling, particularly along I-68 between mile markers 1–18.

🚒 INVITATION TO BID – FIRE APPARATUS INSPECTION & TESTING

The Board of County Commissioners of Garrett County, Maryland is accepting sealed bids from qualified contractors to provide annual inspection, testing, certification, and documentation services for fire service equipment.

The project includes:

• Fire apparatus pump testing
• Fire hose testing
• Portable ground ladder testing
• Aerial ladder testing
• Required certification and documentation

📅 Bid Deadline: Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD WATCH — GARRETT COUNTY

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Garrett County from Sunday morning through Sunday evening.

🌧️ Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Sunday, beginning around or shortly before daybreak and continuing through late Sunday evening.

Rainfall Totals:
• Widespread 1–2 inches
• Localized amounts of 2–4 inches possible with heavier thunderstorms

Soils across the county are already saturated from recent rainfall. Additional heavy rain could quickly result in flash flooding of creeks, streams, roadways, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.

🚧 Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Garrett County Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions throughout the event and provide updates as necessary.

The Flash Flood Warning previously issued for Garrett County has been replaced with a Flood Warning.

While the immediate threat of flash flooding has decreased, flooding remains a concern, particularly along creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and flood-prone roadways.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD WARNING – GARRETT COUNTY ⚠️

*UPDATE: This has been extended until 6:00 AM now.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Garrett County, Maryland, until 4:15 AM Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall may result in rapidly rising water on roadways, streams, creeks, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.

🚫 Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. It can be difficult to determine the depth of the water or whether the roadway underneath has been damaged.

• Avoid flooded or low-lying areas.
• Do not drive around barricades.
• Be especially cautious while traveling overnight, when flooding can be difficult to see.
• Monitor weather alerts and be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.
