A Contra Costa Election Update

Important election information from the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder-Elections Department:

Statement from Kristin B. Connelly, Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters, Contra Costa County:

“As the Registrar of Voters, I am closely monitoring developments in the courts that could impact how we serve voters.

We are on track for a safe, free, and fair General Election for Contra Costa County voters conducted in the same manner as the June Primary. Voters should not let news about the court cases prevent them from voting or undermine their trust in the elections process. Visit our website here to learn more about the procedures we follow to keep our elections secure.

Important milestones for the election are fast-approaching. Voters should look for their County Voter Information Guide in late September. The week of October 5th, which is 29 days before Election Day, voters will begin receiving their ballots. The same day that ballots get mailed, our team will do the following: (1) we open and begin servicing our network of 43 secure drop boxes and (2) we open for early in-person voting at our office in Martinez (Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Our message to voters is ‘Vote your way, with confidence.”

🦺 Contra Costa County Public Works will be working on road traffic safety improvements in Brentwood and Antioch at four sites along Deer Valley Road, from Empire Mine Road to Marsh Creek Road.

Work will begin Tuesday, September 8, 2026, through Friday November 20, 2026 between 7:00AM - 5:00PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays & weather permitting).

We appreciate your patience while this important work is underway. Please plan for delays and allow for extra time when traveling through the work areas (shown in map).

Good luck to the Freedom Falcons as they take on La Grande in their Homecoming game tonight! 🏈

Last night’s Freedom High School Homecoming Parade was especially meaningful. Seeing thousands of people fill the streets of Downtown Oakley, with more students participating than ever before, was a beautiful reminder of what makes this community so special.

Freedom High School celebrated its 30th anniversary, along with multiple schools and groups from across Oakley, bringing an incredible sense of community and school spirit to downtown. From recognizing FHS Teachers of the Year, to the amazing floats created by talented students, to cheering on countless sports and recreation teams, the FHS Band, dance teams, and student groups, Oakley’s school spirit was felt.

What resonated most was seeing generations of families, students, teachers, and even some of my middle school classmates come together to celebrate. These are the moments that become memories and the kind students carry with them forever.

A heartfelt thank you to the City of Oakley, Freedom High School, LUHSD, all of the students, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners who worked together to make this celebration possible. I’m grateful to have been part of this wonderful new tradition that brought our community together.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Freedom High School! 🦅

Vasco Road Update: 📢Your feedback can help inform future safety and transportation improvements along the Vasco Road corridor.

Contra Costa Public Works has completed a study looking at ways to make Vasco Road safer and improve traffic flow, roadway infrastructure, and environmental conditions between Marsh Creek Road/State Route 4 and the southern Contra Costa County–Alameda County line.

Many community members have already shared their experiences and ideas through the online survey and three community workshops with my office.

The final report is available for public review, and we would appreciate hearing from you. If you use Vasco Road or would like to share your feedback, please review the study and share your thoughts by Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The County plans to award up to $1.25 million annually for three years, for a total investment of up to $3.75 million, through multiple contracts with community organizations.

Ready to Paint the Town Utility Boxes?
Those big gray metal cubes on our sidewalk corners are ready for a makeover.

Starting this month, Contra Costa County has launched an initiative to transform neighborhood electrical boxes into local masterpieces and this is your chance to leave a mark on the neighborhood.

Contra Costa County is pleased to announce the launch of the Art on County-Owned Utility Box Program.

This program is designed to bring vibrant, colorful artwork to the County streetscape by transforming 90 county-owned utility boxes located throughout the unincorporated areas of the County into stunning pieces of visual art.

By showcasing creative designs from talented local artists, we can enhance the visual appeal of our neighborhoods and foster a sense of pride and connection throughout the County.

Buzz Alert - Vector Control Taking Action, Invasive Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes Detected in Brentwood

Due to the detection of the invasive species Aedes aegypti mosquito in the area, the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District (District) will be using truck-mounted, wide-area larvicide application equipment to control larval mosquitoes in the following area: Brentwood, CA.

DATE: Tuesday, August 25, 2026
TIME: Between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.
Location #1: Brentwood, CA
The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Central Blvd., on the south by Balfour Rd., on the east by Walnut Blvd., and on the west by Marsh Creek (the waterway).

DATE: Wednesday, August 26, 2026
TIME: Between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.
Location #2: Brentwood, CA
The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Spring St., on the south by Balfour Rd., on the east by Minnesota Ave., and on the west by Fairview Ave.

DATE: Thursday, August 27, 2026
TIME: Between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.
Location #3: Brentwood, CA
The area to be treated is bordered on the north by Sand Creek Rd., on the south by Spruce St., on the east by Garin Pkwy., and on the west by Brentwood Blvd.

MATERIALS USED: The public health pesticide to be used is VectoBac WDG, which is a bacterial larvicide that only impacts mosquito larvae. This bacterial larvicide does not impact other insects or animals. The public health pesticide will be applied at a rate of 8 ounces per acre by truck-mounted wide-area larvicide spray equipment.

The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District utilizes an integrated vector management program, which means we use a variety of protocols for controlling mosquitoes. These protocols include public education, physical control including managing vector habitat, biological control such as mosquitofish, and chemical control such as public health pesticides.

The majority of the District's mosquito control is completed when mosquitoes are still in their aquatic form, in their water source. We use only those products registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) for the use of mosquito control and protecting public health. They are applied by our trained and certified technicians according to label instructions.
