Hello, September!

A new month and a new school year are here, and we’re ready to welcome you back to BPL!

Whether you’re getting ready for kindergarten, homeschooling, helping with homework, or simply looking for something new to explore for the school year ahead, the library has resources for learners of all ages. Check out our Back-To-School resources all September long.

There’s plenty happening at the Library— including book clubs, storytimes, programs, our fall Book Shed Sale and the Annual Meeting of the Corporation. We hope you’ll make BPL part of your September routine.

What are you looking forward to at the library this September? A new book, a favorite program, or just a quiet place to work through your fall reading list? Let us know in the comments!

Welcome to Meet Your Librarians, this week say a special hello to Alicia!

If you’ve joined us for Storytime or one of our many children’s programs, chances are you’ve met the wonderful Alicia. A beloved part of the BPL team, Alicia is our Storytime extraordinaire and the creative force behind much of our programming for our youngest patrons.

Alicia loves being apart of our community—you’ll most often find her in the Children’s Room, where she brings stories and activities to life. She’s a longtime fan of Maurice Sendak and is always happy to recommend Louise Penny to our mystery-loving readers.

Outside the library, Alicia enjoys sewing, reading, hiking, and enjoying all that the lakes region has to offer. Inside the library, her favorite accessibility feature is the printer, where patrons can access support with all their printing needs!

Alicia also wants our patrons to know that our Young Adult programs have plenty to offer, so be sure to check out what’s happening for teens at BPL.

We’re so lucky to have Alicia helping make the library a welcoming, creative, and fun place for our littlest learners to explore. Be sure to ask her which children’s book character would make the best coworker the next time you see her!

There’s more to keeping our collection in good shape than housing books!

Pictured here is a behind the scenes look at Grace's set up as she repairs a well-loved book that has seen better days. From loose pages and worn covers to small tears and other everyday wear and tear, book repair is one of those essential jobs that keeps our collection going strong for our patrons in what would otherwise be the final chapter of a beloved novel's life.

It may not be the most glamorous part of library work, but there’s something pretty satisfying about giving a book another chance to be read and loved another day!

Thank you to our team, and all our local librarians who take the time to repair these stories and give them new life for patrons to enjoy again and again!

Swing on by for a wild Storytime adventure!

Join us this Friday at 10:00AM for a monkey-themed Storytime filled with silly stories, playful songs, and lots of imaginative fun.

We'll explore tales about curious monkeys, jungle adventures, and the joy of discovering something new. Little ones can bring their best monkey moves as we laugh, learn, and enjoy a morning of stories together.

Storytime is free and open to young children and their caregivers. We hope you'll join us for grand old time at the library this Friday.

See you then,

Next up for Meet Your Librarians is.... Grace!

If you’ve stopped by the circulation desk at Bridgton Public Library, chances are you’ve met Grace. As a Desk Clerk, Grace loves the people who make BPL special—from the coworkers she gets to work alongside to the patrons who walk through our doors.

Grace loves overlooked classics like Thomas Hardy’s “Far from the Madding Crowd.”, as well as children’s books—especially ones with beautiful illustrations. Her childhood favorite was Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You, which may or may not have convinced her that fairies were real.

Outside the library, Grace is a traditional oil painter, avid hiker, baker, and (of course!) reader. She also loves our Special Collections, like the telescope in the children’s room!

If she could have one fictional coworker? Frog from Frog and Toad—calm, orderly, and an excellent candidate for librarian life.

Next time you’re at BPL, be sure to say hello to Grace and ask her who her favorite illustrator is! And stay tuned for next week's Meet Your Librarians highlight where we'll be introducing you another wonderful member of our team.

Bridgton Public Library is more than a place to borrow books—it's a place where our community comes together.

In the next year we look forward to continuing our local collaborations—like the 4 on the Fourth Race, the Annual Book Sale with the Friends of Bridgton Public Library, and our local partnerships like Storywalk with Loon Echo Land Trust and highlighting seasonal events with our friends in the Chickadee Library Consortium. Be sure to stay tuned for this year's educational workshops, community conversations, and so much more as we gear up for an exciting next chapter of Bridgton Public Library. These experiences help bring neighbors together and make our library a vibrant gathering place for our whole community. Your generosity makes lasting impact right here in Bridgton and our surrounding communities.

If you're able, please consider making a gift to our Annual Appeal. Every contribution helps us continue creating meaningful experiences for our community as we grow and learn alongside one another.

Thank you for believing in your Bridgton Public Library, we're grateful for every gift and partnership. You can donate today via our Linktree in the bio.
