Last night we received a generous matching donation from the Masons. They matched our donations of $402 from the Mother's Day Breakfast.

We joined them for a lovely cookout dinner before accepting the check at the beginning of their meeting. We are incredibly grateful for their support, one Mason spoke saying last week's Searsmont fire is a reminder of what volunteer firefighters face and sacrifice when we answer the call and thanked us for doing so for the community.

It was a pleasure, as always, to spend time with these incredible men also serving their community in many ways. We are grateful for you support, generosity and definitely your company!

Thank you to Whit and French Fry for representing the fire department and BVFC last night alongside me.

Today was Career Day at Brownfield Denmark Elementary. We took E2 and the Squad to represent Brownfield.

The kiddos were able to explore both trucks, ask questions and share their knowledge. They were most curious about our "snacks", followed by the extrication tools. They were shocked when we explained why we have snacks and told them sometimes a granola bar is all we eat for lunch or dinner (or both) when we are on emergency scenes but I don't think it deterred any future firefighters 😉

Thank you Chief Perreault, Shane and Jess for representing the Brownfield Fire Department for this event. Shane, thank you for taking time off from work each year so that you can participate.

We would like to thank the staff for inviting us and for lunch! We look forward to attending this event every year and enjoy your hospitality.

Aside from the black flies, it was a beautiful night for some training. Members of our department joined forces with members from Denmark Fire tonight for some portable pumps training.

This training was the first of two trainings this week. On Saturday, members will attend UTV driving training as well as using the pump on the UTV.

These trainings allow for members to learn and freshen up their skills in preparation for brush fires.

Fun fact: this picture was taken right before I (Jess) was soaked by a runaway hose! 😂

Today's incident in Searsmont is a grave reminder of what our volunteer departments could face at any moment. A majority of the departments that responded were volunteer departments and we are extremely fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteer departments throughout Maine.

We are thinking of all those involved in the tragic incident and their families. A lot of lives were deeply impacted and we are sending love and prayers to them all.

We have had some recent changes in membership that we would like to acknowledge.

Brian Brown, thank you for your years of dedication to the fire department and BVFC. We feel incredibly grateful to have had you and hate to see you go but we know we will still have the pleasure of working alongside you as you now serve on the Denmark Fire Department.

Scott Burnell, 25+ years is an amazing achievement. We are thankful for all you did for the department and the BVFC over those years. The Fryeburg Fair Muster won't be the same without you and we hope you still come get the crowd going on our behalf! 😉 You will be missed but we wish you nothing but the best.

Heather Burnell, while our time with you was shorter, we greatly appreciate your service to both the department and the BVFC. During our time with you, you provided CPR training, many baked goods (which often held us over for the late dinners after meetings) and were one of our biggest muster team fans. You even surprised the team with memorial shirts for a FF muster that would be a little emotional after a loss of our fave MC.

Being a dedicated member of the fire department means leaving family gatherings, frozen gear on frigid winter nights, skipping meals, trainings multiple times a month, climbing mountains in 90 degree weather to fight brush fires... the list goes on and on.

Then there are the things behind the scenes that no one thinks about. Necessary tasks required after a call and maintenance of the building and trucks that members volunteer their time to make sure are taken care of.

In the past week members have volunteered their time to do so and I thought I'd share what they accomplished.

🚒Engine 1 & Engine 2 were cleaned/ detailed inside as well as exterior washed

🪜Ladders were inspected and new safety stickers applied

🏣Monthly building/ safety inspection completed

🧹 Driveway swept by hand

🇺🇸 New flag hung on building

As well as getting up bright & early on Sunday to host the Mother's Day Breakfast. Thank you Cristin & Jess for getting up early and starting your special day serving the community.

We appreciate all that you do, all that you sacrifice and your dedication.
