⚠️ CITY OF CACTUS WEATHER ALERT ⚠️

Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our region, including the City of Cactus, in effect until midnight tonight.

This means conditions are favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing:

* Damaging winds
* Large hail
* Frequent lightning
* Heavy rainfall and sudden flooding in low-lying areas

While storms are not guaranteed, they can develop quickly with little warning.

What to do now:

* Stay weather aware throughout the evening
* Ensure multiple ways to receive alerts (phone, weather radio, apps)
* Secure loose outdoor items
* Be ready to move indoors quickly if storms approach

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if the situation changes.

The academy brings together fire service professionals from across the state of Texas to strengthen leadership skills and enhance the services provided to their communities.

Hydrant Flow Testing Notice

The Cactus Fire Department will be conducting routine hydrant flow testing beginning this week and continuing through the month of June.

This important maintenance helps ensure that our fire hydrants and water system are operating properly and providing adequate pressure for emergency response.

During this time, residents may notice temporary water discoloration or slight pressure changes. If this occurs, please run your cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears.

⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR CACTUS ⚠️

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 7:30 PM for the Cactus area.

Storms moving through the area are capable of producing:
• Wind gusts up to 60 mph
• Penny-sized hail
• Blowing dust and reduced visibility

Residents in Cactus should seek shelter immediately inside a sturdy building and stay away from windows. Avoid driving during periods of blowing dust or heavy rain, as visibility may quickly become dangerous.

Strong Thunderstorm Alert – Cactus & Nearby Areas

Strong storms are moving through Cactus and surrounding areas this evening.

Impacted Areas: Cactus, Guymon, Dalhart, Stratford, Hartley, Goodwell, Hardesty, Conlen, Texhoma

Time: Through 8:45 PM CDT

Hazards: Wind gusts up to 50 mph & hail up to ½ inch

Impact: Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation possible.

Safety Tip: If you’re outside, head indoors and stay safe. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10:00 PM CDT.
