At the Veterans Flag Ceremony this evening we honor the memory of Michael J. Kozlowski who proudly served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945!
Michael was born on April 13, 1917 to Frank and Elizabeth Kozlowski, the second son of three boys and one girl. The youngest son, Henry, also served in the military. Michael received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in direct support of combat operations as a surgical technician in the Mediterranean theater of operations. He served with courage and commitment until Honorable Discharge as Sergeant in 1945.
While stationed in Italy, Michael sent funds to his future bride, Sophie Jakubowski, her mother and his mother for Sophie to purchase an engagement ring in his absence. That ring is still held dearly in the family. They were married December 1, 1945, after his discharge. They were married for 26 years until his death on January 7, 1972. They had two children, Frank and Michele, two grandchildren, Christine and Justine, and three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, and Josephina. His daughter Michele is here tonight to honor his memory.
