Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.
We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless heroes who ran toward danger to help others. We honor the courage, compassion, and selflessness shown by first responders, service members, survivors, and ordinary people who came together in an extraordinary moment.
For many children today, September 11 is something they learn about in a classroom or hear about from parents and grandparents. For others, it is a personal part of their family’s story. As adults, we have an opportunity to help children understand difficult moments in our history with honesty, compassion, and care—while reminding them that it is okay to ask questions, talk about their feelings, and seek support when something feels difficult or frightening.
Today, we remember. We reflect. And we honor the heroes and the humanity that emerged in the face of unimaginable loss.
May we continue to teach our children the importance of compassion, courage, community, and caring for one another.
