We are incredibly honored to share that the W.C. Friday Middle School Band program has been recognized as a 2025-2026 Program of Distinction!
This prestigious honor celebrates programs that demonstrate exceptional musical excellence, artistry, and leadership within their community. This award was given to only 40 middle schools in North Carolina.
Congratulations to Band Director, Mrs. Cindy Owens, and the WCF Cavalier Band on this outstanding accomplishment! And thank you to everyone who supports our band program!

Shout out to the East Gaston High School marching band and director Brandon Taylor on being named a 2025-2026 Program of Distinction from the North Carolina Bandmasters Association.

We are incredibly honored to share that the East Gaston High School Band Program has been recognized as a 2025–2026 Program of Distinction!

This prestigious honor celebrates programs that demonstrate exceptional musical excellence, artistry, and leadership within their community. This award was given to only 88 high schools in North Carolina. We are so proud of our students, staff, families, and supporters who make achievements like this possible through their hard work and dedication.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our Warrior Band Program. This honor belongs to all of us!

THANK YOU, SROs! We had an opportunity to thank our school resource officers during the annual appreciation breakfast for SROs prior to the start of the school year at Highland School of Technology.

Gaston County Schools is proud of its on-going partnership with the Gaston County Police, Gaston County Sheriff's Office, and municipal law enforcement agencies, which are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that schools are secure and personnel are prepared should any type of emergency situation occur.

Our SROs go beyond expectations to support a safe school environment for students and employees, and we are grateful for their commitment to school safety and security.

Today, Gaston County Schools hosted a Back-to-School media preview at Forestview High School, giving local media a behind-the-scenes look at the new school year. Reporters had the opportunity to visit with students, teachers, school leaders, and Superintendent Dr. Morgen A. Houchard to learn about the great things happening across our district.

We are incredibly grateful to the Gastonia Police Department, 101 Black Men for Highland, Moloch Elks Lodge 468, TOPS Ministry and Mount Zion Restoration Church for their generous support of our schools today.

These amazing community partners donated school supplies to 13 schools across our district. Pictured here is their delivery at Lingerfeldt Elementary.
