We are seeking an experienced Public Records Officer to oversee our records management program and manage public record disclosures under minimal supervision. Operating with extensive decision-making discretion, you will ensure full compliance with the North Carolina Public Records Act (Chapter 132 of the NC General Statutes) and the Records Retention and Disposition Schedule for Public School Units (PSUs).

Key Responsibilities:

📋 Public Records Oversight: Direct the intake, processing, tracking, and fulfillment of public records requests in strict accordance with NC Chapter 132.
🗂️ Records Management & Retention: Maintain and update records management programs following the PSU Records Retention and Disposition Schedule.
⚖️ Legal Paraprofessional Support: Assist the General Counsel by researching legal issues, analyzing complex documents, and supporting Board of Education policy ex*****on.
🤝 Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal staff, legal counsel, media, and the public regarding records access and policy compliance.
🔍 Policy Advisory: Evaluate existing record-keeping processes, identify compliance risks, and implement best practices across departments.

Yesterday, leadership across Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools gathered for our annual CMS Convocation—a vital day of alignment, continuous learning and strategic preparation as we gear up for the upcoming school year.

The gathering offered a valuable opportunity to Reflect on our progress, Refocus our collective vision and set our sights on Reaching Higher for every student in our district.

We were honored to hear key insights from CMS Deputy Superintendent Dr. Melissa Balknight, as well as an impactful keynote address from Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin, Deputy Superintendent of the NC Public Schools. Dr. Pitre-Martin shared insights on the state’s educational strategic plan and highlighted the critical role CMS plays in driving those statewide goals forward.

Inspired and united, we are ready to lead our students to success this year!
