For firefighters, September 11 carries a meaning that words can never fully express.

On this 25th anniversary, the Stanley Fire Department remembers the firefighters who climbed the stairs while others escaped, the first responders who answered without hesitation, and every person who never returned home. We also honor those who later became sick or died because of their service at Ground Zero.

Their courage still shapes the fire service. Their sacrifice still calls us to serve. Their memory will never fade.

Never forget.

This Labor Day, we pause to recognize the people whose work keeps Stanley moving forward, from those who build and repair to those who teach, care for others and serve our community.

While many families enjoy a well-earned day off, the members of the Stanley Fire Department remain ready to answer the call. It’s our privilege to serve the community we call home.

Every firefighter has a story, and today we're proud to introduce Firefighter Darrian Shook.

Darrian joined the Stanley Fire Department eight months ago with one simple goal: to help people. That desire to serve others is what led him to the fire service, and it's what motivates him each time the call comes in. One of the things he enjoys most about serving in Stanley is the close-knit atmosphere that comes with protecting a community where neighbors know and support one another.

When he's not on duty, you'll likely find Darrian enjoying the outdoors or spending time fishing. We're grateful to have him as part of the Stanley Fire Department family and appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and heart he brings to serving our community. Thank you, Darrian, for answering the call to serve.

The Stanley Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Paramedic/Field Training Officer Ashley Moore, who was killed in the line of duty on Monday, July 6.

Ashley dedicated nine years of service to Cleveland County EMS, answering the call to help others with compassion, professionalism, and selfless commitment. Her loss is felt throughout the public safety community.

We join our brothers and sisters at Cleveland County EMS in mourning this heartbreaking loss and ask our community to keep Ashley's loved ones and all of her EMS family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Ashley. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, we celebrate the values of freedom, service, and community that have defined our nation since its founding. It's a time to gather with family, friends, and neighbors and reflect on the blessings we share.

As you enjoy the holiday, please make safety a priority, look out for one another, and take a moment to thank those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Today, we recognize the fathers, grandfathers, mentors, coaches, and father figures who help shape our community through their example, guidance, and support.

The lessons taught around dinner tables, from front porches, and during everyday moments often leave the greatest impact. The values of responsibility, respect, service, and integrity are passed from one generation to the next because of the influence of dedicated fathers and role models.

From all of us at the Stanley Fire Department, we wish you a Happy Father's Day and thank you for the positive difference you make in the lives of those around you.

The Stanley Fire Department is proud to recognize Firefighter/EMT Nancy Kimmel for her service and dedication to the Town of Stanley. Since joining the department in November 2023, Nancy has served the community with compassion, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping others during their time of need.

As both a firefighter and EMT, Nancy plays an important role in responding to emergencies and supporting the citizens of Stanley each day. Her positive attitude, caring spirit, and commitment to public service are evident in every interaction she has with the community and her fellow firefighters.

When she’s not serving others, Nancy enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, who remain one of the greatest joys in her life. She is also proud to serve alongside family, as the mother of Stanley Fire Chief Gary Hilton. The Stanley Fire Department is thankful for Nancy’s dedication and the heart she brings to the job every day.
