We are sorry to report that our donation drop off will be closed again on Friday 8/14 and Saturday 8/15. This is because the heat index will be over 100 degrees each day and that is simply too hot to have our staff and volunteers working in those conditions.

We appreciate your understanding about our closure today due to capacity issues. It allowed us to get caught up. And we appreciate your continued understanding until safe temperatures return.

When Paul first moved to Charlotte, he was unhoused. Before long, he found a job and was able to secure housing. But after a workplace injury and an unexpected reduction in hours, he needed to find a part-time job to supplement his income. This process took several months, and he began to fall behind on his rent. When he was referred to the Matthews HELP Center, he was facing eviction and the prospect of losing the home he had worked so hard to afford.

Our team had worked with his property manager before and were able to cover his entire past due balance. In addition to rental assistance MHC provided clothing vouchers and food, allowing Paul to stay in his home and focus on paying the next month’s rent.

We have been having a fantastic summer with our Summer Student Program volunteers. Students in the program have dedicated at least 40 hours of volunteering with us this summer. That’s more than 1,200 hours of student help! These students are talented too with big hearts! Pictured is Helen who personally designed cards for us to send to volunteers in need of a “hi” or pick me up outside of volunteering. Carlos is a natural animation artist. He designed the sign on our porch sharing information about financial services available for individuals in crisis. Thank you 🙏 Helen and Carlos for sharing your gifts with us!
