Amy is a single parent whose only child recently went off to college. Amy was working full-time and earning enough to cover her bills, but in February her company underwent downsizing and her job was eliminated. She picked up odd jobs to try and keep herself afloat, but couldn’t earn enough and began falling behind on her rent. The Matthews HELP Center was able to provide her with rental assistance for March and April; giving her the resources she needed to stay in her home and allowing her to focus on finding another full-time position.

As we move into summer, families and individuals in our community need your help.

When schools close, tens of thousands of children across Mecklenburg and Union County will lose access to free and reduced-price meals each day. Working parents will need to secure childcare until classes resume in the fall. Warmer weather will cause many utility bills to rise. These additional costs can put even more strain on low-income households.

You can make a difference today by supporting our 2026 Summer Relief Campaign and ensuring that our neighbors in crisis receive the resources they need.
