Congress needs to act.

According to the Safe Harbor Advocacy Initiative’s March 2026 policy brief, there is currently no federal Safe Harbor protection in law for parents who seek emergency psychiatric care for their child with RAD. This legislative gap must be closed.

Families should not be criminalized for seeking help. Children should not lose parents to abandonment charges. The system should not retaliate against those doing the right thing to protect their families.

What must change:
Congress must enact Safe Harbor protections. States must audit denials and mandate RAD-informed training for child welfare workers. Hospitals must stop threatening abandonment charges.

This is not a maybe. This is urgent.

REMINDER - Do not post any information about your kids school/teachers etc in those back to school pics! Make sure it's a neutral background with no identifying factors and it's a good idea to make sure all location data is turned off on all photos. Have a safe school year!
